New WWII carrier

Charter Member 2015
CVE-73 Gamber Bay is a Casablanca class escort carrier from WWII. These carriers were used in various support roles. CVE-73 is famous primarily for being sunk in the battle of Leyte Gulf. It was also the carrier on which my grandfather served (a survivor as you might guess).

I have both a pilotable and an AI version mostly ready. I plan to add some of the AA guns and improve the lights before uploading them. They are FSX SP2/Acceleration ready and will include arrestor cables and a catapult though the Acceleration catapult does not work for taildraggers. I have already tested trapping and catapulting using 3wirex (now from Abacus).

My grandfather served on the CVE-76 Kadashan Bay in WWII--also a Casablanca class. I later found out that the Katie B. was built in my hometown of Vancouver, WA, at the Kaiser shipyards.

Sorry, but this is not correct, the Wyvern recently released works with the acceleration catapult, not to mention the RAZBAM A-1´s Skyraiders, maybe you´re not aligning with the cat shuttle?

Hey mfitch

Nice carrier you have there. I have a WWII battleship going also USS North Carolina BB-55. Looks like we'll have matching paint jobs:costumes: Great job

Now, I am excited again. My attempts to retro-fit a Corsair (add [launch_assist] entries to aircraft.cfg per SDK) failed because Acceleration tried to place the plane "level." The cat engages shifting the plane into perfect position, but then the tail drops to the deck to be shoved back up and fall again repeatedly until the cat disengages. Perhaps those who worked on the Wyvern can provide info on how to do this right.

Thanks for the info.

Nice job! Definitely need more ships and carriers in the sim!:ernae:

Ahh when you say you used the values from the SDK did you use the exact values? If so they won't work. I can't remember exactly what the values are called, but one is where the launchbar/strop etc. is attached to the aircraft and the other is where that attaches to the catapult.
For the first make a rough guess based on where it is on the actual aircraft in real life and for the second it needs to be at ground level when the plane is sat on it's undercarriage. Bear in mind the sim seems to model the moment arm etc. properly so if they aren't in the right place weird things will happen.
Obviously if you have the source model it's easier figuring out where things are.

Hi Folks

If looking to set [tailhook] & [launch_assistance] positions,
recommend using Lamont Clarke's excellent Marker States Tool

It'll display their set locations in-game.

Read the info, & download MST from foot of page.
