New Y-Wing in Star Wars Clone Wars series

Lionheart

SOH-CM-2014
Hey all,

For the Star Wars fans, the animated series Clone Wars is pretty good for SciFi addicts.

They now have a new Y-Wing they are using in the series. Way cool new shape. I guess its the first version before the later variant in Episode New Hope.

A couple of pics of the new version with lowered wingspan? of Nacelles, longer cockpit pod.

It should be the same version as in Episode 4. The ones in Episode 4 lost all the fairings and skins that you see on the Clone Wars version. I've been waiting since the original Star Wars came out to see what the Y-wing looked like in it's prime.

That is pretty cool! Picturing the Episode 4 Y-Wing under all that sheet metal....
The Star Wars Cross Sections books show a totally different Y-Wing with full fairings. I like this one better.

I like it alot better too. Looks like a triangular fuselage with HUGE engines, like their version of the SR-71.

ah, this one is much easier to look at. looks more finished somehow when compared to the ones in a new hope. those ones looked like bare bones (lack of better words)

In fact..that´s exactly how they were envisioned in the 1st place, but Lucas decided to go for the "decayed" version of it and strip all the fairings. For those that owns the novelization of "A New Hope" and are fortunate enough to have the one with the original poster on the cover..you´ll see it, just like the pics above.
Best regards

I think in the original pre-production sketches from "A New Hope" they show Y-wings with the skins in place. I'd have to dig out my references from 30 years ago but they would show the exact same Y-Wing you see in The Clone Wars.

Lucas was always a fan of the "used" Universe look. Keep in mind that the Rebellion forces always got the 'hand-me-downs' and cast off's from the Empire. The Empire always got the newest and best. If you look at the Clone ship markings (especially those on the ARC fighters and Clone Trooper transports) they have the same red markings you see on the Rebellion ships in Episodes 4,5 & 6.

If you have a sharp eye you'll see the Millennium Falcon for a second in Episode 3. It looks all shiny and new......

that's pretty cool!

man, i hate it when they remove the designer's name from the sketch...can't tell who drew it....

Awesome to know!

I always wondered what the Falcon would look like new...

fantastic looking, but i do like the beaten up look in the films, then again my perfect craft from star wars would be a close call between an A-Wing and the INCOM Engineering T-65 (Later Variant) although the true delta style jedi starfighter comes close....
