Hello fellow virtual WWI airmen.

As a long time Red Baron 2/3d player (with WFP and other mods), im quite familiar with WWI air combat, but totally new to OFF and CFS3.

Installation was flawless, TrackIR works fine with the game and after some tweaking with cfs3config and my Nvidia settings, I'm able to fly with decent framerates.
Now i find myself in the middle of a very intense gaming experience.
Thanks to the OFF team for making this great sim.....I thought I've stick to old Red Baron forever.

I have plenty of questions, but I guess most of them will be answered while playing the game. Anyway, there are two things that currently bother me.

Skins: Is it possible to select a custom skin for my aircraft only. When I choose a non-default skin in the main campaign screen, it's set to default for all aircraft of my Jasta (except the historical pilots).

Warping: Nearly every attempt to warp ends in the destruction of my aircraft. The messages in the upper right corner are "Warning-exceeding max design speed" and "Warning-strees limit....." and the last thing I see is my destroyed Albatros giong down like a stone.

Thanks in advance

Hi Schlonz I am like you new to the sim (having started playing it 10 days ago or so) but I have played many hours for the 94th aero squadron (Spad XIII) and have used warp liberally due to my time constraints. I have had no issues with warp.

Which Albatros?
Does it happen with another type Albatros or different plane also?

Try warping in shorter bursts, i.e. say divide each waypoint leg into three bursts of warp etc.

Thanks for the replies.
Seems like other players are having this problem as well.
I thought my aircraft blew up mid-air, but actually I'm colliding with AI aircraft of my flight.

Re: the other question Schlonz asked: "Skins: Is it possible to select a custom skin for my aircraft only. When I choose a non-default skin in the main campaign screen, it's set to default for all aircraft of my Jasta (except the historical pilots)." I was wondering the same thing -- is is possible to assign a skin to your pilot and not have it also picked up by the rest of the flight?

BTW - the mod is excellent! This is the best $50 I've spent in along time.

Flying an aircraft with personal markings/colours was always one of the best features of ol' RB 3d to me.
Now that the skins are much better, it would be a pity if this isn't possible in OFF.
Any input from the OFF veterans and/or developers???

Warp issue has been found (on some systems only) (thanks Mike) see WM's latest sticky post Schlonz in http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=8995.

No currently it's not possible in CFS3 to have a player flight with each flier with different skins, (other flights yes like Aces etc) and if player is in his own flight you cannot lead others etc.

Flying an aircraft with personal markings/colours was always one of the best features of ol' RB 3d to me.

But RB3D also had 'paint shop' which I haven't missed in the least.

So it seems to be 'what are you used to'

I've noticed that Germans as a whole, enjoy colorful markings on aircraft meant to do battle.

Kind of a Tribal thing, much like the Indian warrior, who puts on warpaint prior to entering battle

As of late, I've noticed Boxers, who dye their hair bright green or purple. So that their opponent might hesitate a millisecond on delivering a punch, as his brain laughs at it's target.

What leaves me baffled, is why someone would intentionally paint their aircraft a bright color. Thus making a better defined target, for your enemy who is shooting a Machine Gun at you. Where is the Logic ? :kilroy:
