Newbies....

Guys I have noted a few nasty responses to quite a few innocent questions recently - I ask you all to bear in mind that OFF needs support and scaring newbies away is exactly what we don't need - it hurts them and it also hurts us - OBD - and that means it hurts all of you too.

We don't want to move our forum but if this sort of thing continues we may have to.

OFF is at a very precarious point and support is the key factor to any further dev work....

Agree!

As I said elsewhere. Tis the season of goodwill....
Don't post here much myself just the odd comment but since I first downloaded phase 1 that first Christmas it came out I was amazed at the support. WM was actualy working over the Christmas answering, patching etc. (and I thought it was only Vicars who did that!)
So lets keep this forum intact and welcome anyone and everyone who posts, enquires, comments as OFF needs the publicity and the people so that WM and co can recieve the due recognition and the financial return that must be required to have done what they have done.
Once again seasons greetings to all.

Yeah, I agree with Winder 100%. There is NO reason ANY 'senior' member of this community should be belittling anyone, or making anyone feel lesser of a member than they are.

If a 'newbie' needs help, open a wing, and take 'em under it. Our community is NOT a 'members only club'. It's built on good, sensible values, and intelligent people with integrity.

Don't ever forget that.

I noticed some "abrupt" responses as well lately and agree that it needs to stop. I myself have asked some "stupid" questions and appreciated the help I received from senior members and in turn have done my best to answer questions when I can.

Remember, you draw more flies with honey than with vinegar!

I totally agree too!
We were all "newbies" at one time and I'm sure most of us asked what might be perceived as dumb questions or questions already asked a "million" times. The CFS3/OFF forum is the first forum that I joined and I knew nothing about searches or threads or anything else pertaining to them. If I had gotten a response from a member here that made me feel like a dummy or that I was not wanted here because I was a "newbie", I probably wouldn't still be here.
I tend to be a little shy anyway and any perceived ill will (whether real or not) would have most likely sent me away.
I personally enjoy answering anybodies question (that I feel I know the answer to), no matter how many times it's been asked. I get to feel that I at least am giving a little something back to the place that has helped me and given me so much, FOR FREE I might add.
I hope everybody has a wonderful holiday season. :friday::ernae:

I've self-installed a moritorium on dealing with newbies, as I seem to lack the needed qualities for handelling without breaking, anymore.

It's now CJ's Domain, and anyone else who cares to chime-in

Hopefully after the newness has dulled abit, my crude methods won't come as much of a shock, as before

Point Noted WM :ernae:

...I myself have asked some "stupid" questions...

No such thing as the stupid question. Some times even when you do a search and you find the answer in an old post (which could be out of date) you may need to get clarification as to what it all means.

As a member if you are tired of answering that same question time and again feel free to let another member answer it.

The bandwidth in members knowledge here at the Outhouse is amazing. :applause:

I am looking forward to my First OFF experience when P3 comes out and rest assured I am going to come back with a Newbie type question shortly there after.

It will probably be something like "Whats a C:/ Drive?" I don't know :icon_lol:

A post worth repeating WM! Nicely done.

In other words folks...
Behave yourselves (you know who you are) and remember the SOH Terms of Use that everyone had to agree to when they signed up. I'm tired of hearing complaints about the nasty attitude that pops up in here all too often.

I actually placed a reminder, on my monitor frame:
NOT TO RESPOND TO NEWBIES IN OFF . .right next to my Trackir . . so I don't forget

Plenty of room left, 22" LCD any requests ? :costumes::costumes::costumes:

The thread was closed so I'll put my opinion here, everyone will agree: that I have an argumentative streak to me at times.

I feel it is alot harder to restrain myself, when the :bs: exists

If you are new

If you are new or recently joined as I am let me assure you of friendly, helpful and timely advice and help that is offered here. I have commented on other threads as to my thankulness for this whole community and I meant it. I have been given so much and had to give very little in return. In my opinion this forum is everything it should be. I am new to all of this and it works very well for me. This is the first forum I have joined and my first computer in 8 years, last OS was Windows 98, things have changed. I got P2 for free in short order (thanks to sittingduck). I got it installed and running in no time thanks to the sticky threads and faqs (thanks gimpyguy and others). I am so happy I may come off as a bit of a Pollyana but I am sincerely having a heck of a good time. I look forward to paying for OFF BHAH as I am so indebted already. I just don't know what else could be asked for?:icon_lol: Are other forums better? I can't imagine that.

First post for a new forum membership. This thread goes a long way to understanding who is at the core of the OFF community, thank you for showing solidarity with the newbies!

Stupid question #1? :wiggle: Maybe I'll wait...

As an old manager once said to me:-

Stop and think how you would feel about the answer you are about to give if you were in there shoes
