Newchurch Advanced landing ground, Kent, 1944

ian elliot

SOH-CM-2025
The village of Newchurch on Romney marsh,Kent was home to an Advanced Landing ground from july 1943 to December 1944, originally a base for 3 Spitfire sqdns, replaced in April 44 by 3 Tempest sqds under the command of Wing Commander Roland Beamont to provide support for the Normandy landings in June 44 and to protect the capital from V1 flying bomb attacks. The ALG was return'd to farmland by December 44 as base'd sqdns moved to the Belgium and the Netherlands

This scenery is for FSX-Acc, i dont have Orbex or any other terrain enhancements, so i dont know if they work or not, Same for PS3D, i dont have it so i dont know, some of my scenery works apparently, so try it and see.

Typhoon scenery object by Fulbert, and i found a 56 Squadron repaint by Alan Merry, one of the three sqdn's base'd at Newchurch
Tent library by Al Simms

You will need IanP's latest scenery objects installed, found here-----

Nice! More ALG's!

I have ORBX, so if you ever want to test with ORBX I'd be glad to give you a hand with screen shots. I take overhead screen shots with FSX stock and ORBX and insert them in ADE so I can see how they mesh. Then make adjustments so they accommodate both (within reason and capability ).

Cheers,
Terry

Hi Terry, i'd be interested to know how Newchurch sits on your ORBX landscape, as long as the mesh-alt of the area is unaffected, then anythings possible. a screenie would be great.

As for the Typhoon, its AH, bought it a year ago and still gets regularly flown.

cheers ian

Try it now. Sorry, been really busy today, haven't had time to approve.

Excellent addition! Many thanks Ian, I've been hoping for an ALG for ages. Being really greedy, is there any prospect in future for any of the other ALGs around Ashford, Kent (my home patch....) used by the USAAF and RAF, e.g. Great Chart, Brenzett, Egerton, High Halden, Kingsnorth, Lashenden, Woodchurch, Staplehurst? In the meantime, I'm more than happy to enjoy Newchurch - thanks again!

Possibly, i do have another on final's, which should be up this weekend, probably the least well know and not on your list :biggrin-new:. As for the American ground's around Ashford, i have good info on all of them, if you could pick one, what would you chose ? Mine would be Brenzett, home to RAF Polish Spits, Lashenden, still an active airfield and a good museum and Woodchurch, fond memory's of the August airshow's they held untill a few years back

Im watching out for the AH P-47, if i like it and buy it, i'll have to build somewhere to fly it from :biggrin-new:

As a fellow Man of Kent living in the area, the answer has to be Staplehurst! It was I believe a USAAF P-51B ("b" = best!) base.
