News paper headline that caught my attention today

While pulling up to the grocery store, the newspaper boxes were right in front of my car....and I noticed a big bold caption on the front page of the USA Today. 540 Children have died due to complications from N1H1 in 6 months. That is a mortality rate that has not been seen with any flu virus for many decades. I too have grown tired of hearing about N1H1 on a daily basis, but the truth of the matter is that this virus is a killer...and it has just begun.

540 Children? Is that world wide or just the USA? I believe that the news media is hysterical about this H1N1. Regular seasonal 'flu kills 20000 to 30000 people worldwide every year, and that would be in a good year. Yet we dont appear to blink twice at this figure. H1N1 has not yet come any where near this figure thus far.
Many of these fatalities have had underlying health issue as well.

Its hit us hard and the amount of deaths, hospitalizations, etc, is staggering. It climbed far faster then they ever dreamed.

I was watching a program on it on CNN and the figures were a bit scary.

Going to stores, you will probably want to use those cleaning wipes on your hands after using grocery carts. Do all that you can to keep clean. This is a airborn virus.

I thought it was kind of odd that here in Ohio, Springfield to be exact.... the 12 people that the paper said were on ventilators were all between the ages of 20-30.... and yet you are only qualified to get the shots up to the age of 24??? Two weeks ago a perfectly healthy 26 year old girl died after she was released from the hospital with the diagnosis of bronchitis.... she died that next day at home of H1N1... Un-nerving indeed...

While the media is clearly creating a lot of "frenzy" around the N1H1 virus, it still doesn't change the fact that the N1H1 virus can be deadly. We have seen a large amount of N1H1 cases here, in Western PA.



I, for one, did not get any flu shots this year. I never have! I have always been a very healthy individual. And yes, I consider myself blessed ~
However, since this past Tuesday, I have been fighting this terrible cold. I usually fight those in 3-4 days, but here we are, Sunday and I'm still coughing, sneezing, feeling achy and have a hoarse voice. Stay healthy & observe rigorous hygiene practices, especially after being in a public place. You can't wash your hands too many times, avoid touching eyes, lips, etc, cough in the crease of your elbow...

I am praying we will see the end of this deadly flu, sooner than later. My heart breaks when I think of the children plagued with this deadly form of the flu....God help us!
