Next project planes rolls into the hangar!

As I am on the downhill journey on the restoration of the Alphasim freeware F-105 packages, I began thinking about my next restoration project. There are many planes out there that need work, but I am focusing on planes that I actually fly more than once a year...so that eliminated a lot of those planes that need work. I looked through my installs, looking at the planes I spend most of my time in....planes that are nice looking, that have decent VCs, planes that have texture mapping that makes for easier painting, planes that would spruce up well.

The winner is: the freeware Alphasim F-84F Thunderstreak and the RF-84 Thunderstreak/Thunderflash package.

I already have the panel lines done for the F-84F Thunderstreak. Will do the panel lines for the RF-84F Thunderstreak/Thunderflash in the next day or two.

Will continue doing new skins for the F-105s and get that project finished "soon"...but I needed to take a short break from the Thunderchief as I was beginning to have dreams about the Thud. Have you ever dreamed about being chased through the woods by a big shiny Vietnam era fighter jet?

Thanks for your efforts. Its nice to see someone with the talent giving these birds the revisit they need.

Just applied some SEA Camo to the F-84F....redoing the Ohio ANG bird in the F-84F NATO package as the development paint....hey, I live in OH, there's an F-84F in OHIO ANG paint less than 3 miles from my house (gate guard at KMFD...will call this week and see if I can get up close to the bird to take some pics...and of the F-100 in Ohio ANG paint as well). Have the forward fuselage half done up in proper SEA camo colors with a weathering layer on top....looks much better. Still haven't blurred the paint edges to give it that sprayed look yet.

Not bad for an hour or two worth of work today. Will do a bit more on it tonight, then back to the F-105s tomorrow.

F-84

Great news Obio.

I got to help beta test the Thunderflash recon version, so the plane has a special place in my hanger.

The Duck...in J2F5 and J2F6 variants are just about ready to upload....unfortunately, I can not upload to the SOH library for some reason....I will continue to test and tweak the Ducks and will upload them as soon as we can figure out why I am unable to upload to the library. I am working on a new set of UV maps for the revised models....lots of testing to figure out exactly what is mapped to where on the new texture sheets.

Ya'll know those windows on the side of the fuselage spines...the ones right behind the canopy on the F-84F? You know how they are just painted on flat black areas on the stock skins? While I could not turn them into real glass...I was able to give them the look and reflectivity of being real glass windows and gave the allusion that you could see through them and see the stuff behind them. This one tweak alone was worth the 45 minutes I spent working on it.

And wait until you get a look at the treatment that I am going to do to the camera ports on the RF-84F. How about being able to "see" the camera lenses "through the glass"? Yeah, that's what I'm shooting for.
