Next RF-4B

Duckie

SOH-CM-2024
is from VMCJ-1. This one's for a retired Gunnery Sgt buddy who was avionics supervisor for VMCJ-1 in RVN. 3101 was one of his birds and he worked on this aircraft while there.

Should be up this weekend.

Bravo Duck - this is just superb. A deserving model with a paint that shows it off very nicely .... looking forward to this one!

I could say how much I appreciated the phenomenally detailed stencil work, or the lovely way the subtle grime marks attenuate the crispness of the white during mid-afternoon sun ... but what really comes to mind is ...

Just loaded one of your recent RF-4's and they really are done very well. Have also stumbled upon a three tank (no weapos) model that fits the RF skins but suspect that one may for the RF-4C birds (?). There are so many models AS tucked away in those packages I continue to wonder whether I have discovered them all. Would like a two tanks model with AIM9's x 4 for the regular F-4B/J's but can't recall if I have come across one in pack 2 or 3. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks expat. The only 2 differences I could find in the 3-tank and the 2-tank versions is that the 3-tank version has the forward nose gear door with the twin square taxi lights and no signal lights typical of Air Force RF-4Cs, where the Marine RF-Bs typically have the single round taxi light and three colored signal lights on that gear door.

The 3-tank version also has the J-79-8 early afterburners which were typical of all early production RF-4Bs and Cs. Most late production RF-4s (the last 3 or 4 I think) were fitted with the thick wings and "fat" wheels of the "J" and the upgraded -10 engines and afterburner. A few earlier Bs had engine upgrades.

I'd like to find an example of a real Marine RF-4B with the Air Force style nose door configuration to be able to utilize the different "tank only" models avaialble.

I agree with you in wishing there was a true "CAP" configuration for B's and Js with tanks and missles but I haven't found one yet.

Cheers,

Steve

We could really start getting into the weeds here with VietNam configurations - i.e., SUU-16 pod on c/l, ECM pods, chaff dispensers, etc etc. So many possibilities - but no models!!:mixedsmi:
