Night Lighting in CRJ in FSX....?

SOH-CM-2014
Hey guys,

So, last night, I needed to unwind and was going to do a Vail Colorado to San Diego run in the stock CRJ in FSX in a real weather night flight.

I fasten in, check my VOR route, I am sitting in a parking spot, turbines idling and warming up.. I look all over for the dome light switch. The dome light is quite bright and I need to turn it off so I can see out the window and see only the gauges illuminated...

I must have looked for a good 20 min's.. I wanted this flight bad.. I looked on the back of the center panel island, I looked through every switch on the overhead console. I looked through each switch, hovering the mouse over each switch in the hopes I would find it mysteriously hiding somewhere.. I swore FSX had advanced to night lighting instruments without a bright dome light! I swore it.... This is the year 2009!

Alas... No night lighting....

I could have not made this post, but perhaps someone can point me wrong. Perhaps there is a repair kit out there that places the option of having 'gauges only' illuminated in the stock tubeliners in FSX.

I sware I thought they had this option..

They did not update the lighting in the CRJ model, unfortunately...

You have to understand Bill, that by the time ACES modelers finally got around to actually reading my FS9 White Paper on emissive backlighting, and realized that it could also be used in FSX, the CRJ model had been "locked down" and could not receive a lighting upgrade...

...hence the crappy "overhead .fx lighting" is all that's available.

As a workaround you can comment out the vclight effect in the aircraft.cfg
I think it gives a much nicer effect that the VC light and will work on any plane that has night textures for the VC, you still have to turn the VC light on for it to work but you only get the panel lighting and can still see out the screen.
The only drawbacks are that you cant turn on the dome light and the panel lights wont come on until FSX decides its dark enough to need them.

Heres some shots of the default CRJ and the Carenado 172N

Thanks Bill and Dangerous Beans..

You know, I might just 'adjust' the lightmaps for the cockpit and tone them down a bit. That might just be enough to give it a nice glow. I can always rig the dome light to come on with the recognition lights..

:ernae:

No need for that, Bill.

Tibot Kokai has included new night lightning textures in his MALEV repaint of the default CRJ.
Avaiable on Avsim.
