I did read several from a few years ago that lamented that the only way to get any realism to the water was to up the wind to 20 to 30kts. I'm enjoying the heck out of this Sim and I don't normally fly over water all that much, but it's a shame that FSX did it better. Hopefully Asobo will figure it out.Select a floatplane, click a spot above sea as departure, FLY (you'll be at 1500 ft), go to Weather, left column Add Windlayer and click 'Mean Ground Layer', put in 15 knots (or 20 if you dare), land and hold on to your hat .... .
Could you show us the "glass" effect you are getting ?Has there been advancement in adding wave action to the water? The latest forum discussions I found were around 2022 and it seemed to be a distant hope that Asobo might eventually fix an oversight. . .water doesn't look like glass all the time, lol
Yep, you can make the water look better by using wind settings, I do it a lot but the time of day has a lot to do with how good it looks, especially at higher altitudes. If it's at certain times, you get a very bad, "copy and paste" effect of using the same tile over and over again. Those water effects also do not interact with objects in any type of realistic way, IMO. Maybe MSFS 2024 will do better? I have all settings maxed out also.Could you show us the "glass" effect you are getting ?
You have to ensure that there is at least a little bit of wind and also that your water quality setting (in the graphics settings) are set high enough.
The water in MSFS looks way better than what it was in FSX. Comparison can only be made in very calm or no winds at all, then it looks kind of similar, yes. But once wind appears, water becomes a bit more lively.
I mean, that video shows it well:
Don't know about the wave action, but I highly recommend this program for many fixes.Has there been advancement in adding wave action to the water? At 'A' you certainly have 6 or 7 points there, Bob..This is why, in the A area, it's the same graphic used over and over again to represent a "spray" of water. In area B, the water shows no displacement, it's like the floats aren't really there, which in reality they aren't, LOL, but I want there to be displacement when an object moves through a liquid. It's similar to the feeling I get when I see an aircraft in this sim, stationary on land or taxing and there doesn't seem to be weight on it, the tires and shocks don't look like they are effected by gravity, that one also bugs me.

Yeah, I'll be getting all the amphibious aircraft then, probably boats too, LOL.At 'A' you certainly have 6 or 7 points there, Bob..
Thing is though i only noticed it now. I do love this new spray effect a lot, also because we never ever had such a spray effect for our floatplanes/flying boats in any FS edition. Personally i can easily take imperfections like you show us here for granted. It stands out on a still pic but 'life' it's not that bad at all. 'B' is for Bummer, absolutely.
I'd like to call it a very, very good start nontheless. Let's hope that with MSFS2024 these imperfections and flaws in the floatplane water spray- and wake effects will have been delt with and we'll be able to finally enjoy water take-offs and landings to our heart's content.
Don't know about the wave action, but I highly recommend this program for many fixes.
