Greeetings!
After a long hiatus I've been able to rejoin the world of computer gaming and most importantly flight sims. Health issues forced me to spend a longer time than wanted in the so-called real world, but thanks to a few good docs I'm back in the game.
Anyway, first call of business is CFS 2.
I've put together a new system with Vista64 installed. Before I start installing our fav flight sim I figured I'd better ask here if there is anything I need to be aware of before I inflict Vista on this sim. (or visa versa).
Also, any suggestions for an easy multiple install setup would be very helpful. Or, please point to an appropriate thread. I do remember some great campaigns and mods that were about.
Any input and suggestions will be most appreciated.

Are people starting to notice a trend here?...we're getting a lot of folks who are coming back after a long hiatus.

CFS2 is becoming the "Hotel California" of air combat sims.

Quality will always float to the top. HC is one of my favs. Firm believer that all the good tunes were written in the 70's.

I also remember one of the mods was working on a Flying Tigers scenario that I was following with great interest. (Cut my teeth on AVG reading when I was a kid.)

First of all Welcome to our community!

If you want to start you can start here http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2_Missions/AF_Midway/ and download this first Campaing made by Pen32. Please start slowly and take your time. Build a backup copy of your CFS2 install just in case you get it trouble.

World war two was a World war and with this Sim you also fly in the ETO if you like later on through its World map. I enjoy flying in all Theaters and I hope do to.

Watch your six and enjoy flying with this Sim.
 
Scratch the Campaigns Rami mentioned will give you over 70 missions.AVG is 43 missions and CATF is 28 missions.In case you are wondering the CATF is the AVG after July 1942.

Talon- I believe that yours is the name that I remember as working on the AVG project. Many thanks. I'll surely make use of it when I get set up.
I hope that the years have treated you well.
My most pressing need is information on the best way to install CFS2 with Vista. As you know Vista is a bit finicky when it comes to older games and applications, wanting to install things in folder locations that were not the norm with prior operating systems. So your advice in this respect would be most helpful.
Secondly, would you be so kind as to point me to a thread that describes a multiple install procedure that might also work with this os.
Sorry to be a pest, but I promise I'll settle down as soon as I have something to shoot at. :)

Where you might run into a problem is the fact you have 64 bit Vista,I have 32 bit and have been running it for well over a year.I simply don't know if you can run it on 64 bit,hopefully someone here does.Having said that go here http://www.tweakguides.com/VA_1.html and here http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html to learn all about Vista and how to make it run like a champ.Then go here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

To do a clean boot,take your time and do some reading and you will be happy with the program.:friday:

By the way,I run CFS 1 on Vista with no problems.

I'll definately check out the sites. As far as I know Vista64 should run everything the same as 32. CFS3 installed and ran ok, but had trouble with the HOTAS software. Found out later that I had run afoul of the jmicron bug. So I reformatted and reinstalled the os. This time the only chipset drivers that I installed were for sound and lan. So far so good. But then I havn't installed any games yet.

By the way, I found this in one of your links concerning multiple installs:
To do this, simply rename the existing CFS2 root directory folder to any other name.
Then insert the CD & install in the usual way.
You will now have two separate versions of CFS2 which will run independently.
