Hi - I'm new to CFS3 and am having a spot of bother using ordinance. I map the cycle ordinance and release ordinance buttons to my joystick and although I can select, say rockets on the P47, I can't fire them... or I select a 50kg bomb in the Ju87 and once again, I can't release...

I really feel dumb - what am I doing wrong?

Cheers for help:ernae:

Hi

Just to be clear cycle is the back space button and release is enter.

Correct?

In controller settings CFS3 options are you saving a new config under save as and then loading it with the new assignments? What joystick model is it?

Hi TW

thanks for your response - I have a new user config as I've mapped some functions to the joystick (Saitek Cyborg). It seems to remember the saved settings each time the game is loaded - for example I changed button 1 on the joystick from 'fire guns and cannons' to 'fire guns only' and this seems to be working as expected.

More perplexingly, the kb command for release (enter) didn't work either - for a while I had this function mapped to both button 03 on the joystick as well as Enter on the kb. In a fit of frustation, I deleted the kb command, so now my weapons list only has button 03 for release ordinace.

In my research into this issue, I notice that in CFS2 it is necessary to 'arm' the ordinance after it is selected and before it is released, but I don't see any mention of this for CSF3...

I also found another post on a different forum (from about 4 years ago, unfortunately) where somebody had the exact same problem. They were able to fix it, but didn't say how they had done it.... doh!

Very frustrating, as I'm sure it's something really obvious and easy.

Machine is running XP SP2 and CSF3.1

Try going to your game controllers with start---- control panel----------Printers and Other Hardware . Click on your controller and all your controls should show up on the screen. push your buttons on your joystick to see if thy are working. If thy are start cfs3 and go to options-----control options---------add assignment -----push the button you have to fire/drop ordnance and it should tell you if that button has that assignment. you also must have a button assign to select next weapon before you can fire the weapon.
hope this helps

There's a bug in the config editor. If you reassign the controls for bombs or rockets to any buttons other than the original presets, they won't work.

Use notepad instead.

Create a new profile anyway, with a name OTHER than CFS3 or whatever the default name is.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\Application Data\Microsoft\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 (Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" in folder options/view is set to "yes" first!) and find your new file. It will be called "whatever.xca".

Open it with notepad and look for these two lines:

<Button ID="22" Action="ReleaseFireWeapon"/>
<Button ID="20" Action="SelectNextWeapon"/>

Change the button numbers - referring to your joystick - to the ones you want to use. Close, save, and check it out.

I think that the controls editor actually uses "Select next waypoint" for the select weapons button. Can't quite remember. Anyway, you could try that first, just to see.

Thanks to all that offered help - the good news is that I am now able to use my ordinance! It turns out that my .xca file had 'SelectNextPayload' instead of 'SelectNextWeapon' mapped to the joystick - cheers to you ndicki - you were spot on! I owe you a virtual pint!

Cheers, Al
