Norton Anti Virus Stops Pilot Creation

Hi Folks,

I have installed Phase 3 and updated it to 1.1. When I try to create a pilot, my Norton Antivirus halts the process with a malicious alert. Is this normal?

Have you ever thought about changing AV? I've used Norton and did not like it at all. It uses up too many system resources for my liking. At present I'm using AVG but I have used Avast in the past. I've never had any conflicts whatsoever with either, and the personal edition of both is free. You can find them here............

AVG----http://free.avg.com/

Avast---http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Updates are free also.

I'm beginning to think that I might change. I authorized the file to be used and I was able to create the pilot as would normally be expected. I think Norton was being too nosey and too defensive.

nav vrs avg

Hi,

I really like avg, been putting it on eveybody elses computers rather than nortons.

Only thing i dont like about it, is that you cant disable it. I suppose you could just go to task manager and kill all the processes it has running, but that seems like a hassle to me.

Back in Phase 1, I used McAfee everything, resulted in me needing Phase 1 on Disc, I couldn't D/L it, or anything from SOH. Plus everytime I started OFF, I got the Intruder Alert. Finally I couldn't D/L an aircraft for FS9

Said goodby to McAfee, hello to AVG Internet Suite ( not the Free one) and never looked back

So it does happen, Norton is rather possesive anyway :kilroy:

I have Norton and it does not happen to me. Just tell Norton to lay off that program or shut it down while you play.

Or alternatively, just tell Norton to go and get to where the sun don't shine!

Personaly, I would rather have a virus, than Norton Anti Virus.... A virus is easier to deal with, and less costly!:ernae:

AVG all the way!...Never had a virus since having it installed (and never had the problems described in this thread)

Sent it to the IT people here. They loved it.:ernae:

heehee...glad you liked it Dimus

I work in IT too..and I thought that up a couple of years ago (even had a T-Shirt with it on for a while)

Three things that always make me groan when I hear users mention them

1) Norton System Security
2) Packard Bell (or Packard Hell as we call them)
3) AOL

If someone phones me up with all three... I hang up!
:ernae:

Ja-Wohl!!!

It's good to see some old Jasta 23b's hanging around again. :)

As soon as we sort out the Muli-play issue so that it's an easy process, something tells me I'll be looking off my right wing and seeing your black Raven again. ;)

Having had Norton products once (but never again) I have to wonder why so many people still spend good money on them. Maybe because so many get 'given' it with new computers as a 'trial' edition and are too lazy to look for a better one. Me, I wouldn't have Norton, even as a gift. I'd give it to someone I didn't like very much. AVG is for me, never had a problem in over 8 years use.

Hi James, The message seems to be very strong throughout the forum.......Multiplayer. How are you ,bet you are busy? Have any news about LA getting a copy of OFF 3 for him to start doing a review? regards, Dave

No, I have to drop him an email. I've been busy building (well configuring my new PC) and working on the new website.

I'll try and talk to him later today. He did mention that if Avsim wouldn't buy it for him, he would do it himself. I hope he does, it would be great to hear his opinion.

All the best,

James

Hi Stachel, it would be good to fly with you again. I like what I've seen so far and I've learned that I must write down my wingman's and flight's names for the combat report. I shot down a N11 on my first flight in the Halb DII but I couldn't remember my wingman's name. Next time I will have witnesses!

LOL UK_Widowmaker :) that's the three names I had on my shudder list, and oddly in that order too, many years ago when I was in Tech support. :faint:

I have used Norton for years and years and actually was in the computer business and I think its the best program out there (haivng tried others) . I guess different strokes for different folks.
