Wow! Nice one UncleTgt. A new paint really makes a big difference for this model.

I like.

Cheerz, Dv

Mmmmmmmmmmm......

...lovely! :applause: :applause: :encouragement:

Besides, A.F. Scrub's models have this sweet feature of a great fps performance, even if they aren't multi-LOD. Nice choice!

Hi Uncle Tgt
I have made a simple panel for the AF Scrubs P43 Lancer, based on the VC view and from research on Internet.
I do'nt know if you already have made one for your converted bird
I case this work can help you, here is a zip file with the original bipmab

If Gaucho 59 wants to make an artwork of this simple drawing, he is welcome.

Cheers
Beepee

I was certain you will made something uncredible from my simple drawing.
Thanks a lot
If you need machine gun templates to finish up your artwork, I have enclosed them down there
machine gun sample.jpg

I have also made a VC bipmap that fits with the 2D panel of the bird

VC-Panelac.jpg

The zip file for the VC panel is enclosed downthere

If you can redraw it the same way you did for the 2D panel, that would be great !

When you will finish your WIP, please, can you send them to me it by PM, I will then complete a panel config file maching your new bipmaps.

Cheers

I got it finished with a little "creativity"... but passable after all...

it is available anytime... well I might retouch it with some of the stuff you got
on your post... but I wanted to get it done quickly... getting ready to go to
Normandy.. hope to be there by Jun 6... Leving for S. Francisco and direct to
Frankfurt on the 30th of May.... going to stay till it gets too cold or November..
whichever comes first... my wife is being reassigned to Grafenwoer/Vilseck/Hohenfeld areas...

Gaucho & Beepee,

Great collaboration, I'm sure the resulting 2D panel will be a great improvement.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: AF Scrub P-43A-1 Lancer by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of AF Scrub's P-43A Lancer for FSX & FS9, converted for use in CFS 2. I chose to model the P-43A-1 model, as it had the broadest scope for use.

The aircraft are: P-43A-1: unknown Chinese Air Force unit, 1942, P-43A: attached to 76 FS, 23FG, Kunming, China late '42. A few of these a/c were loaned to the 23FG for high altitude recon & interception. P-43A: 55FG, San Diego CA, JAN '42, RP-43: 77FS, 20FG, Spartanburg SC, JUL '42, P-43A-1: 1 PRU, RAAF, NOV '42. Used for high altitude recon over Papua New Guinea.

I've included 3 different dp files for the different versions.

US_P-43A-1.dp
Really only ever used in the US as training aircraft, & quickly replaced by P-38 & F-4 Lightnings as these types became available, I've restricted it to a single "Guns only" payload. This file should be used for both the 20th FG RP-43 & 55th FG P-43A.

CHI_P-43A-1.dp

The Chinese P-43A-1 was fitted with rudimentary (& largely ineffectual) self-sealing fuel tanks & pilot armour. There are conflicting details regarding armament, but 6 x 20lb & 1 x 200lb centreline bomb loads are mentioned. It is also supposedly plumbed for a 41.6gall centreline fuel tank.

The ordnance choices for the game are difficult to reconcile, so the actual payload offerings here are: Long Range - uses the stock Wildcat 58gal droptank in a semi-recessed position. The airfile entry has the correct tank volume.

6 x 30lb_frag (DBolt) on a centreline rack (kate_bombrail)
2 x 100lb (Dbolt) on a centreline rack (kate_bombrail)

RAAF_P-43A-1.dp
The Australians made several field mods to improve the range & bombload of the Lancers they received. Long Range - uses the 44gal drop tanks from RobH's conversion of the AH Hurricane IIB for FS9 (AH Hurricane IIB, available at SOH). Again, the airfile specifies the correct 30gal size.

2 x 250lb bombs - Uses racks & bombs from William Dickens Beaufighters (WD_beauTFX, available at SOH)
Each dp also uses kelti exhaust effects.

The aircraft.cfg & airfile are a combination of AF SCrubs & the old CFS2 version with dynamics by Bob Boudoin and Bruce Thorson. Even so, I really struggled to get anywhere close to quoted specs, maxing out at 250kts & with a ceiling of 41000ft, but a range of 1100 miles. It needs more work, but will still give you a fight even as a QC opponent.

I've left the panel as AF SCrubs original, as I find the VC works well on both my WIN 7 & XP set ups. It needs a panel constructor to do a job on the 2D panel.

To install, unzip this download to a temporary location & then move to the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Choose which version to use & go fly.

Thanks to: AF Scrub for a great aircraft, and to Kelti for inspiring exhaust effects & prop disks.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions.

Just in case....

Gaucho & Beepee,

Great collaboration, I'm sure the resulting 2D panel will be a great improvement.

Although apocryphal, the panel in the original certainly could be improved... so I did so...
for anyone who likes its disposition....
Notwithstanding, I still think the one I did before based on Beepee's info is better...

Gaucho, agreed - using a P-47 bitmap for the 2D panel is less than ideal :wink-new:, but the Scrubby version shipped that way, & all my efforts at using the "old" P43 Lancer panel bitmaps (see the sub-folder in the zip) just ended up with a mess (I'm no panel builder :banghead:).

I uploaded everything as is, then noticed that you & Beepee were working on something much better ...

Reply...

UncleTgt,

Boy, did this ever fill a gaping hole in CFS2, many thanks! :wiggle:

Great work guys - another gap well plugged.

I read a book about a US pilot who flew P43's in China - it was many years ago so I've forgotten the name, but, it was very interesting. If i recall, he liked the height and speed advantages over the P40, the Lancer gave him.

Hi Gaucho,
Your second panel looks already fine.
Did you finished retouching it ?
In my opinion, I think that the machine guns and the little panel on the right still need to be more detailled, according to the photo I send in this thread.
May I also give you a suggestion for the sight : can you draw it independently from the 2D panel so as to be able to get it or not, using a specific window in the panel config file ?
And what about the VC panel, did you work on it ?, if not, I will use your 2D model to make a new one.

Please Gaucho, when you have finished your panel(s), can you PM me the bipmap(s).
I will then rewrite the panel config file to fit with them, and after your approval, upload your job at the SOH library

Cheers

Good eye! yes the panel on the right hand side needs work...
and yes I can have the panel bmp without the gun sight... and the gun sight by itself on a black background
My layered image is as follows: a pure black layer, a decorative sky layer for wip show, the tableau instrumentale, and the gunsight
(in other panels, I have intermediate layers.. for weathering, chips, etc)... so the final bmp can be "flexible" to any desired finish
As for the VC panel... no I have not made one yet... didn't know there was a VC

Cheers,
G.

Thanks for your beautiful skins UncleTgt

Your skins are superb, and I know what I am talking about : I converted, tweaked the air and config files, and tried to make a skin for this bird some times ago. The results being faraway from your job... not even good enough to be uploaded at SOH.

Now, thanks to you, we can fly this birds...

Hi Gaucho,
Concerning the VC panel, I already put a zip file and a vew of it in this thead (above on may 5th " Nice job gaucho 59") together with the templates of the machine guns.
Take care that the VC panel bipmap for this bird has specific dimensions : 1024 x 451 pixels...
You will find the VC zip file downthere
