Ok I'm exercising my camel in the quick combat 'killing field' and can tuck away the aces in most of the german planes with some reliability .. one on one dogfights..

all except one.. The hannover.. How many guys with guns have they got in the back.. and how much body armour have they got? :173go1:I'm getting shot out of the sky 3 times out of 4. I have been much taken aback :redf:

There's no problem about getting on its tail.. hop and a flip and I'm on it.. then bang bang I'm dead. So I try to fly underneath it but..

It's got to be from the side hasnt it (and below)?

So all aces out there.. how do beat the two seater when you cant sneak up on it or drop out of the sky on it? I read that the Bristol 2 seater when flown aggressively was quite dangerous!!! What does Boelcke say about this.. In the mean time I'm going to repatch the ego against a fokker or two.. :wiggle:

He's flying at 95 mph, you're flying around 110 mph, that's a closing speed of about 15mph. So you are hanging in space waiting to get shot.

Prior to June of 17, your were dealing with an observer, trained in arial photography, who also fired the machine gun

Later than then, they had to qualify with that Machine Gun, before they looked at an aircraft

MVR would Dive on the pilot, avoiding the Gunner altogether, buy the time the rear gunner knew he was being attacked, he couldn't fire without hitting his own wings.

If a 2 seater see's you, he fly too low, for an easy belly shot

I should think that was reason for the Sopwith Dolphin, she had 2 machine guns that fired through the prop, and 2 more fired up on a 45 degree angle

For some reason it seems that even if you approach from underneath the gunner can catch you. The gunners are also crack shots from long distances. We are told that this is improved in P3.

In the meantime I would try to approach from the sides as you said, with long deflection shots, a few on each pass. A dive from above at high speed also works. You have to be patient and not stay too long behind him.

Guys as Gimpy says, with relative speed you are basically almost hanging in space asking to be shot. Do not fly behind and straight, don't forget in RL a good pilot and gunner would work together, and could bank slightly to give his gunner a better shot etc. You need to surprise attack very fast from high or very low and keep moving your relative angle of attack at all times to confuse the gunner. If you sit in the back of one of those and get the craft reasonably stready you can quite easily put holes in anyone flying straight behind you..
use your noggin.. (brain/head).

Oh I have to use my noggin.. :kilroy:

Wel , I regularly put 60 hits into him and more and I die with the first 10 he puts into me. I wait with interest to see if it changes when I get in the back seat..
I think I understand relative speed/velocities..
The only way is to attack free of the total certainity of being hit by the rear gunner is from the front side quarters (which makes the relative velocity issue bad for me) then dive underneath him turning into line otherwise dead eye dick will hit me ..
I'ts 'fun' if frustrating.. :wiggle:

Going on from what Whaymen said. Is it possible to kill the observer?

No problem wiled fouler..:173go1: BUT you make the point I was hinting at ... can you kill the observer? I dont think so.. It doesnt matter really.. I'm just working on trying to get attacks on the 'front' quarters

P2 I can't rem if you can kill the observer, P3 yes.

Don't forget he is shooting at your radiator/engine lovely and big in his sights, you are aiming at the rear less. 2 seaters are not easy meat.
Some you may need to attack from high /front hard and fast.

hey ho polovski.. I'm just enjoying the challenge... It helps to be able to fly the plane sideways! :wiggle:

Part of the challenge is that the gunnery by computer uses an aimbot program-- a mathematical calculation set used to target enemies. The thing about math is that its' deadly precise when it finds you. A real person, even with very good aim, displays a fair bit of slop in deflection shooting and aiming. An aimbot program can hit you hard and direct because it's so precise.
