Nuieport AI behavior

Hi Guys,

I´m a little exhausted from my first few hours of OFF3. :woot:I love it!!!!

But one thing happens all the time: The Nuieports, regardless which version, always crash. Every time they try to climb, their AOA gets to high, so they stall. They do this a few times, mostly 2 to 3 times, then they could not recover anymore.

This happend in QC, and the AI skill was set to "Rookie". Anybody else witnesses it?

Greetings

That could be the reason you do not see any rookies (apparently) in campaign play. Just a guess.

Albatross DIIs do it quite regularly too when engaged in combat. I've seen more pancake into the ground than go in any other way.

I've seen plenty of Newies, DH-2 and E-III's make the same "rookie" mistake. (Please forgive terrible pun)

Ok, then it sounds like the rookie "AI" is really a rookie? So then it is a formidable AI programmed here!:amen:

:woot:

I don't know it seems to me the old P2 problem of lower end 'puters that are struggling to run P3 take away from the performance of the AI.

Not the case here. In QC, with just eight a/c in the air (four allied, four hun), the hun crates do it frequently while being chased. I have a pretty respectable rig.

They either try to evade vertically, stall and float to the ground like a parachute, or they get shot up and go vertical and float down the same way. It's very odd looking.

No, it is not depending on the power of some puters. I changed to "veteran", and the Nuieports do NOT stall that often anymore. It happens occasionally. Like "human". Wow, the others gave me a hard time....:woot:

You can cause this to happen to an enemy, too! I bagged an ace in a D7 this way and I was out of ammo. I just kept 'zooming' and (fake) 'booming'. He would try to pull up and shoot and stalled himself out of altitude and into the gound. Not realsistic and I only did this twice but I guess the AI produced this result due to my actions. Now, I just fly away, if possible, when out of ammo and no sqd mates around.

I've found AI performance to be much better than P2, though I do get the weird circling business sometimes.

Yep, this is exactly what I am seeing too.

When the AI fight, they fly much better than in P2 and do maneuvers previously unseen.

Yet occasionally a bunch of the AI planes will just circle and circle, apparently oblivious to your presence. Just waiting for the 1.2 patch to see if that reduces the frequency of that behaviour.

Its AI nav issue - circling crashers it is noted in the issue thread in the sticky section -please always look there first!

Progress update: 04/02/09

1) AI issues when player is not lead and AI Circling/Crash issue:

Issue:
AI issues when player is not lead and circling and crashing of AI in low powered craft - we will soon be testing the fix to this..
Temporary Workarounds:
Enlist and always play with the highest Rank
Users can elect to always lead by setting the Always Lead in the Player Flight Position setting in workshops.
Progress:
Fix implemented in V1.2 - final testing in progress

Yepp, I read this one, but I thought of it as a "friendly squad only" issue. Thats why I didnt post it in the "patch" section.

Sorry:friday:

Yep, I read it too. (Thats why I said I was waiting for the 1.2 patch). Looking forward to it and thanks guys for all the work on fixes!!

No problem - no all AI Nav in the lower powered craft is affected under certain circumstances - testing this fix at the moment!

Best

I don't know about crashing, but the AI Nieuports I've encountered are awesome. Dogfighting in an Albatros DII against N16s is like trying to swat a fly with a club. Good shots are few and far between and you must make every one count.
