I couldn't go down to Duxford a week ago, so I went up to Leuchars on Saturday instead. Some things were LOUD, others VERY NOISY and one was PAINFUL (the Eurofighter), but the classics and BBMF were a delight.

Oh yes, the UFO. Well, I know it's XH558 and I know the guys flying it are friendly, but I've never seen anything from the '60s so futuristic and downright alien as the Avro Vulcan - you'd have thought it was about to let fly with death rays and antimatter torpedoes.... ooer mummy!

With thanks to the pal who lent me his digital SLR - cheers Phil!

Beautiful aircraft! I remember we were driving past an RAF base - not sure which - when I was young, and suddenly one of these was taking off rights over our heads! Big and impressive!

Excellent pic!

I remember air shows years ago at Scampton and Waddington when 3 or 4 of them would do the 'Vulcan Scramble' and take off in succession. Utterly awe inspiring.

and I agree, especially in todays skies it does look totally alien
