O\T whats the thoughts on this?

Interesting Dave.

I've been considering getting FSX myself but am wanting to know if it's worth the improvement over fs9 which I already have and what alternatives there are I'd like to know which is the all-round best one in terms of flight & aircraft modelling i.e I want all the controls/gauges/systems to work. As much as I love cfs3 it's very poor in this respect.

Also, and this applies to all the sims, no one should be able to just jump into an aircraft and take off and fly the thing! I want to have to learn how to do it. Is there any sim like that?

Btw there's also X-plane to think about: http://www.x-plane.com/

FSX has more eye candy and sharper ground textures then FS9 but the core engine is the same. It has automobile and boat traffic and the planes have things like self-shadowing, etc. Some of the new addon planes made for FSX do look much more realistic. However, unless you have a good system you will not be able to take advantage of these things and just end up have FSX that looks like FS9. If you can run FSX it is a nice upgrade. Make sure to get FSX Gold if you get a copy. This has FSX Deluxe and FSX Acceleration combined into one......

Starspeeder - thanks for that bit of info, glad i never went through with getting it now, hence the reason i asked about it on here, your a star.

Clive - i agree with you, i love cfs3 but its missing so much and on building my first aircraft i am finding it really frustrating that we cant make things work that should be there. i heard alot of good and bad things of x-plane so not sure and i dont want loads of sims on my pc.

Snaker - thats the fsx i was looking at, the gold one as its not a bad price at mo.

Cheers for the info and feedback.

Dave
