o/t windows media player/mp3 files

i have been using windows media player to sync mp3 files into my player.
sometimes when i put an album into it, instead of going in there on it's own, it goes into this "unkown album" file. right now, that unknown album is a mix of molly hatchet, ratt, and suicidal tendencies. when i look at the files on the player with windows media, it doesn't show an "unkown album".
it shows them all separate and in their proper category.
what gives? can anyone help me figure this out?

...WinAmp? :d

Sorry cheezy, I don't use WMP and I just drag-n-drop my tunes onto my PDA memory card like it's a USB memory stick.
I just had to offer a "suggestion". :kilroy:

Cheezy,

Just to clarify, when you say you're getting albums under the "unknown" rubric, that on your MP3 player correct?

What MP3 Player are you using?

I've never had good experiences with Winamp. Most of the time, I manually choose which files go to my MP3 player. I know there's a way to edit the tags, etc...but just never got around to figuring it out.

It means that the MP3s (or any file) don't have the proper tags, so they're not showing up right. If you rip them yourself, windows media player will add all correct tags. If you download them, you never know what you're going to get.

If you right click, then go to properties on the MP3, you can manually edit them.

yes, turns out that was my trouble. the tags on some being incomplete or not matching caused them to show up on my player, (a coby 4G mp4 player)
as "unknown album" and a couple split into 2 albums with the same name, by the same band. they showed up on windows media player correctly, just not on the portable. i deleted the "unknown album" from my player, then edited the tags for those files on my computer and re-downloaded them. it seems to have worked. i didn't know if you right clicked on the song in windows media player you could edit the tags. it was time consuming, but effective. thanks you all for the advice. i knew i could count on you guys.:applause::woot:

Just FYI...

I stumbled onto a WMA 11 issue a few weeks ago where all my ripped material was suddenly not being added to the library and I could not use the tags to update the album art or the tracks. Drove me nuts.

Turns out this is a known bug which occurs occasionally when using other media players at the same time as WMA. I guess it just chokes.

Anyway, the fix was simple, but it took me forever to find it. You just delete all the tags, and let WMA find them again.

Worked like a charm.

iTunes has this issue now and then. I need to go in and redo a bunch of songs into their own albums again. For some reason, it seperates 'some' compilation CD's. They keep the album art, but seperate into their own albums based on singer/artist...

arrghh.. .
