O/T your thoughts on WOFF?

Pat Pattle

SOH-CM-2025
I've been considering buying WOFF. Daniel (Gecko) has detailed his thoughts to me and I value his opinion but who else here has it?
I know I should be asking on their forums but I wanted an unbiased view from those who also spend time with 'normal' cfs3.

I will have to get a new PC to run it so would also appreciate thoughts on the best system to enjoy it at it's full potential.

Am currently reading 'No Empty Chairs' by Ian Mackersey which is an insight into the life of the RFC and RNAS pilots, aircrew and ground crew from inception and beyond. Quite an eye opener as I know relatively little about ww1 aviation.

Thanks,

Clive

Hi Clive,

WOFF is a first rate WWI sim, you wont find better for emersion. The models are very good, and FM's are believable and each plane does show it strengths and weakness's when flown against each other.

The only thing I do not really like about WOFF is the inability to modify things to much. by this I mean adding in additional standalone aircraft. the 3rd party software that runs the whole thing (using the CFS3 game engine for actual game play) has had code added to text files located in each aircraft. without the proper code entries the 3rd party software will not recognise the planes and therefor not allow them to be selected in game. you can add in skins that you can then pick to put on player aircraft and enemy aircraft, but you cant use say the Gotha bomber, or the Zeppelin, or the Sea planes from OFF phase 1 etc etc.

and because the dialog files have been edited, once in the CFS3 engine run part of the game, you cant see any menu options to enable selection of additional planes for QC or select a mission file that calls on the additional aircraft.

But other than that its a first rate WWI sim that will have you filling one of those empty chairs yourself.

regards Rob.

outstanding.....been a CFSer from the start and WOFF is as beautiful out of the box as you could ask for......a different scale in terms of speed but for immersion it's without parallel. don't hesitate....as for system specs I believe it is a bit demanding but there are much more informed threads on this over on their forum @ SimHQ

Woff

WOFF is brilliant I have been using this sim right from the start of it's birth Over Flanders Field Phase 1 I know that there are other sims like Rise of Flight but for me Woff and it's earlier brothers
has still been the one for me. The only thing I would say about WOFF is that there is no mission builder and the structure is very different so you can't interchange and use older missions unlike Heaven and Hell
but I have been reliably informed that there will be a mission builder eventually depending on cost and donations, lets face it. These Guys have put years into this and I think they deserve all the support they can get with their beautiful artwork. Give them some encouragement Fellas

hmmm I love a challenge.......would I almost say a dare

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading the forums and watching the vids, looks like a must have then. :)

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that it may not be very moddable but I can see whay the've gone that way as the MP needs to be stable.
However all that can be done can be undone....

Lol, well I'd put money on you finding a way into it Mike!

Ya pays a lot of money, and sadly that has deterred me from purchasing it.

onc ei have a spare few bucks to buy it, honestly I think it is way over priced this time, then by allmeans illjump right into it and find a way to make use of mods and even get mp running for it as I ave done in the past
why I have always asked form the get go to try and help with this project, nd have these items taken care of before, but some of the higher up on the off team have had a slight lack of support for these ideas

I've taken the plunge and ordered it, thanks for the special offer link Andy, that saved me the VAT. :)

It came to less that £40 which is on par with most pc/ps/xbox games and since I didn't go to the pub last Friday I saved half of that already! :encouragement:

Let us know how you get on with it Clive.

I am still in the "Rise of Flight" camp for WWI. Could be persuaded if it is worth it.

Kev

My WWI hack.

Ooh that looks nice Kev, what scale is it? looks enormous! :)

I have no experience of RoF apart from marvelling at the screenies so can't comment on it. Having now spent an hour or three in WOFF I can say that it is well worth the money. I don't yet know how they've done it but it's turning out to be the best combat flight sim I've played by far. The new ai surpass even those in BoB2, there are lots of new and changed commands, including those for wingman and the scenery is stunning.

It's not supported in XP but I'm running ok on it. I have the sliders all on 1 at the moment and it still looks good! I have had to half the size of the detail textures to get the fps acceptable though. I'll be putting a new pc together soon so that I can appreciate it fully.

Clive, it is 1/4 scale.

Wingspan 83"
Length 57"

Currently powered by a 28cc petrol engine. Could do with going up to a 38cc.

Along with my 1/4 scale Pup.

Next on the list to do.
A DVII to 1/4 scale.

I have the plans just not the time.
Plan (1).jpg

My current PC would not run WOFF, so that would be an additional expense.
