Object libraries

Terry

SOH-CM-2016
I seem to have accumulated at least 15 of them in the addon scenery folder such as EZTHIS or EZTHAT, RWY12, STATIC OBJECTS, etc, etc. Would there be any advantage in PC seek time in combining them into one library. There are certainly some dupes so there would be disk space saved.

Probably best if you left them alone, there may be some bgl duplicates but the GUID's ( the ID of the object within the library bgl ) may be different, you'll fly from some scenery maybe in a few months time and scratch you head as to where the objects have gone :jump:, i may be wrong but i think its texture's that are the bigger draw on resource's rather than the bgl's.

I gotta have a couple hundred at least.

There is no real load on the sim until the objects are called by a scenery object placement .bgl.

Until then they are just indexed by the object's unique ID number, or GUID.

As the sim only indexes one instance of each GUID the only real penalty for having duplicates is a very small amount of HDD space.

If you are real diligent in searching out dupes when you install them, you might save some space by not having duplicate textures installed.

That being said, it is important to note that just because you find 2 texture files with the same name means that they are the same images.

And that becomes a problem when you combine objects into one library or can also be a problem when you combine all your libraries into one folder.

As an example, the RWY12 Static Object Libraries have a few issues that were caused by combining all of them into one folder. Now these issues are pretty minor and hard to spot, yet they are there.

cheers,
Lane
