OBJECT_DP Folder Size Limitation?

Hi All,

I was receiving the usual two error messages when you have too many aircraft, ships or the mdlnames.txt file is too big. After hours of fiddling with the folders and finally making a fresh installation, I discovered the culprit was the OBJECT_DP folder. I deleted all the .CDP files to no avail.

Is there a size limitation to this folder or would it perhaps be a corrupt file which is causing the problem?

Thanks,

Kevin

I think the cap is about 1,700 - 1,900 .dp files, but that's not 100 % certified.

For my PTO install the number is 1288. It is not a file size error, rather a number error. I've jiggled it around removing only large files or only small ones and it doesn't seem to be looking at the sizes. As soon as I top 1288 I begin to get the error message, can't load MB, etc., etc.

That's my experience, but I'm not convinced that 1288 is the magic number for everyone.

I have the same problem. In fact, I just made a new thread asking for help in identifying a single weapons pack for use. The reason is that I cannot afford the space in the OBJECTS_DP folder for a new set of weapons for every plane. I have also learned to use tools that remove unused files such as Wipe Gauges which removes unused gauges. Since there are sooooo many ad-ons for CFS2 you have to do this kind of maintenance or you will end up making a new installation every few months because the old one became too crowded with files. Then, the cycle starts all over again.

Thanks Rami and Cody - another CFS 2 problem solved.

I normally use the overload patch which eliminates the error messages and lets me have hundreds of aircraft, ships, object dp's, etc, but not be able to use Mission Builder. I switch to a more modest size installation for mission building.

A couple of months ago I switched to the Jean Bomber method of multiple installations using batch files. I have found this to be the best method, especially for all the constant addons - there is only one common gauge, effects, scenedb folder, etc.
