Observations!

After a week of flying and tweaking a few things in V4, testing airplanes, scenery and weather programs, here is my non-technical opinion. . .Wow!

1) Freeware scenery, for the most part makes the transition to V4 with few problems (elevations mostly). Even the Vietnam Project Scenery looks good.
2) Most of my airplanes are FSX Native Freeware and have no problems making the move, some payware work also, but the limitations are well documented.
3) What has been most impressive is the world we fly in. I have not seen a single building or tree "pop into place", as I fly along they are just there and they remain there. Even distant objects simply seem to appear as I fly along, rather than suddenly seeing a group pop up. The loading of distant scenery objects and vegetation is seamless and quite impressive.
4) Ground textures stay in focus. . .aside from the one instance with the Skyraider last week, I have never looked down from my aircraft or even to a distant point and seen a texture that looked blurry.
5) FPS. . .this is the "Holy Grail" of Flight Simmers everywhere. . .getting that perfect fps, lol. I no longer pay much attention to that information because everything is relatively smooth and that's what makes it enjoyable for me. My flying involves smaller airports, airfields and airstrips and by their very nature most of them are out away from large cities where fps could take a hit. So for me, I have my frame rate set to 30 and normally it will only change +-2fps. I'm good with that. Heavy weather will knock it down as much as 10fps as will having to fly over a major city. . .so I avoid those situations whenever possible.

All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

100% agree. Even on my older I5 machine it runs well. I was first hesitant to buy it because of the recommended 8mb video card, mine only has 2mb. I have most sliders 3/4 of the way right and kept the radius low, locked at 30fps and everything runs smoothly.

Good job P3D team. This is the sim we have been waiting for.

Had to revive this one briefly because here's another indication of how amazing the 64bit Sim is. I have been slowly moving Tim Conrad's Native FSX Aircraft over. Up til now it's been rather easy because many rely on "cab" files for their gauges. Today I moved the T-33A which is totally "gau" files so every single one had to be replaced. For the most part I was able to find suitable subs for all but a few and so I set out to do a very Low-Level flight to see what would happen at high speeds.

After take off, level at 80' and airspeed at 400kts. . .I flew for 30nm across cities, expanses of solid vegetation, highway traffic and so on with most sliders at Dense or greater and ground textures at hi res. all roads were crisp, no blurring at all. . .all trees, cars, buildings, etc stayed in view in the distance and directly under and around the T-Bird. Never a stutter, never any vegetation popping in or out. . .it was amazing to see the world, albeit a virtual one, as you would expect to see it for real.

My system is average by todays standards and may even be somewhat outdated depending on what you consider "average".

AMD 4300 Quad-Core_3.8GHZ
8Gig RAM
Win10 Home_64bit
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970_4Gig RAM (Driver Ver. 382.05)
2-22" Wide Screen Monitors

I've tried to make V4 hicup or cough and no matter what I do its smooth ride low and fast...and the virtual world is amazing and I don't yet use ORBX...
