Odd System Issue

I've been going along just fine since BHaH came out, 20-30 missions, 12 hours, etc. An hour ago, I switched my monitor cable from the VGA type I've been using to a DVI cable as both the video card (8600GT) and monitor (20" Sony LCD) have DVI connectors and I'd think that is the preferred connection. After that, OFF won't take me to the field in any mode. In QC, when it should go to the field, it dumps back to the QC start page. In campaign, It dumps back to the duty room. Not knowing any better, I did a repair with the OFF DVD (which wiped out my pilots and records) which did nothing to solve the initial issue. During the time the DVI cable was connected, everything else seemed to work, CFS3 flew fine, as did FS9 and FSX. I changed back to the VGA cable and OFF seems to work again, albeit loosing my former pilot.
I'm not the most computer literate, but for the life of me, I can't see how CFS3 would run over a DVI cable but not OFF. Any ideas????
I should add it's a dual AMD (5600+ x2) running Win XP SP2, 8600GT.

The only thing I can think of at this moment is one specific video signal, exclusive to one specific part of OFF, is not getting through to the monitor due to a damaged wire or pin in the cable (or could be in the DVI output-head on the card). Try a different cable (if you can), just to rule that out.

It's not likely the output on the card, it has 2 DVI ports and each act the same. The VGA cable is attached to the vid card thru an adapter as the vid card only has DVI outputs.

Never heard of that one, I used DVI for years no issues at all.
try resetting cfs3config to defaults first via workshop button?

Totally bizarre. Can't see how there could be feedback from a video cable back to the OFF program....quew music from the twighlight zone.

My guess is the cable then, assuming the card handles the VGA and DVI signals exactly the same.

The odd thing is that CFS3 flies just fine. I would think if it were a config issue that CFS3 would be buggered too. Could the vid card have an issue to it's output? I wouldn't think so as every other sim and program seem to be fine, same for the DVI input on the monitor. I'm going to see if I can borrow a different cable, and start eliminating hardware issues.

I use DVI on my GTX280 card and Ilyama 24" monitor, but have to as the GTX280 is digital only. However my on-line reasearch suggested that digital offers no real benifit over VGA. In fact on my setup, many of the manual adjustments in VGA mode on the monitor are no longer available when using the DVI digital connection.

I'd say stick with your original setup.

Did you try putting the analog cable back on and see what happens?

Yes, when I put the VGA cable back on, OFF was fine (other than having lost my campaign history to the repair). I did notice that the DVI cable is DVI-D single where the adapter to the VGA cable is DVI-I Dual. I have a DVI-D dual cable on order, I'll try that and if that doesn't work, I'm going to use the vga and forget about the DVI for now, not worth the stomach ache.
