I purchased Fs2004 a couple years ago but never really fly it because I had choice between a slide show or lower graphics detail than FS2000 but at that time, I was unaware of any tweaking things.

Last year, I found OFF, But the first time I played it was absolutely ugly like you can see in my first screenshot. But after a lot of tweaking, (thanks to all the help I got here) I got the result you can see in the second screenshot and even more cause now I play in cockpit with a decent 20-25 FPS.

So my question is, can I tweak FS2004 to obtain the same result I got with OFF? Can I expect a lots of eyes candy without a slideshow?

Thanks

P2 ran ok on my overclocked AthlonXP3200+ GeForce6800 with low / medium settings.

I think I got FS2004 to run very well on that system too but it would never look as good as OFF, which simply has much better graphics.

Looks good ToBeOrNot. BTW all the icons and helpers can be turned off if needed... Not sure re 2004 never get to fly anything else until this is done but hopefully some guys here can help.

In it's stock form FS2004, can never be tweeked to appear as good as OFF. That being said, look into Golden Wings, it is a massive patch for FS2004, where it becomes 1939 always, the massive airfields don't yet exist. The Jets aren't around, the DC3 is king of the uncrowded skys.

The scenery is alot better, not up to OFF standards, but nothing else is.

There a few OFF Pilots who use it, I'm sure they will chime in

I'm spoiled by OFF, I'll no longer fly without machine guns :costumes:

I think OFF is a lot more demanding on a system but cfs3 allow a lot of configuration setting. For example, my first screenshot look like it's coming from a 1995 game and the last one, for me is the most beautiful graphics I never see on my screen but I think it's not looking so bad to you too. When I look at screenshot from peoples here and I compare with mines, the biggest difference I can see is not in quality but in quantity. FPS quantity, tree quantity, particules quantity and pixels quantity (resolution).

Maybe I'm wrong but I think my old laptop 1.6Ghz 1.25G RAM and 32M video card give me (after tweaking) flight model, AI abilities, lightning reflection, objects models, not skins, and every others things I did not adjust myself to fit my old rig specifications, exactly the same than anybody here.

If this forum did not exist when I first found OFF, I would probably uninstall it a couple of days after the first try and probably think it's because my old computer was unable to run it.

Maybe I made this mistake with FS2004 and only need a couple of research to be able to adjust it for my laptop.

There is some awesome scenery (if you pay for it ) for 2004..especially for BC and vancouver There is some even more beautiful scenery for FSX .. and beautiful planes.. The best low level VFR scenery I've seen is Australian from http://www.fullterrain.com/gallery.html
The trouble is that no matter how much you tweak if the stuff isnt in the data .. you dont get it...
I quote.. I also have!
Unlike FS2004, with FTX it's a case of the lower you fly, the more detail you will see! It's completely the reverse of what you have previously experienced, and it is only when you see FTX in motion on your PC that you will believe how truly immersive flying can now be.

I tried a demo version of FSX at it's release, just to see what it look like. Even for my old rig, it was an amazing, wonderful ... Slideshow :costumes:

ToBeorNot S!

Yes, FSX can be a slideshow. But it is capable or being brilliant. If your system is medium spec, and it sounds like it is - then it may help to use the FSX SP1- that helped FPS.
But if it struggled with FS2004 then i fear it is time for an upgrade.
Of course, i don't know your circs, so that may not be possible- but the downside of flight simming is that it is a part of computing ( unlike number crunching etc ) which demands the fastest this and that- a never ending spiral upwards - lol

I know, cos it's that time again for me.

I play with computer since... I can't remember,:isadizzy: and I work with it since about 10 years but I have the habit to keep my old rig much longer than what expected by the guys who sold it.:icon_lol: The one I have now should be a secondary PC cause it's a laptop but my desktop is a 800Mhz so it's really good at gathering dust.:kilroy: I started to look for a new desktop about 2-3 years ago:banghead: but now I'm sure I will wait for P3 and probably ask :dParky:wiggle: for what should be the best, upgradeable hardware on the market:costumes:
He will probably add my name to his ignore list if I start to bother him too quickly:ernae:
