Hearing rumors of some kind of event up in Norway associated with the name of Hammerfest, I loaded up my old Sikorsky S43 (Bill Lyons version)at Merc Air HQ in southern England and decided to head up there to check it out. Maybe even see if I can get a good deal on some ball peens for AP adjustments. Leaving Rochford behind, my first leg is a quick dash across the channel to Ostende to load up on some Jupiler beer for the trip.

About halfway across the Channel, I flew over an older aircraft carrier. Once I got near the coast, everything fogged in and I had to feel my way with help of the radio compass to find the airport. Made it down safely and found a parking spot next to a fine ol' DC-6 freighter.

Off to go load up on some beer...... :icon29:

Headed on north to Lelystad, Holland. What I'm actually doing is testing out stuff prior to our race from Norway to South Africa. This flight was with everything running to see if anything would break. It held up and everything seems to be working. Now to get a little flight time in the Sikorsky before we start....

Love the polished metal on your personal aircraft Willy :applause:

Hope you have a good ground crew who love polishing. :icon_lol:

Pete.

I love Bill's Sikorski S43 and the Golden Hawaii package. Great fun flying about the Pacific in it, but I bet a trip up the Norwegian coast to the arctic would also be fun.

Pete, I get the Swedish Bikini Team to do my polishing. It's quite the show :icon_lol:. This was an early bare metal for me. I don't do that much shine on them these days.

Jagd, the Norwegian airline DNL flew a S43 for a while in the '30s so there is a history for them in Europe. I think I was one of Bill Lyons' first sales of Golden Hawaii when I pre-ordered it after he released the first beta shots of the S43. Haven't flown it much in the past few years, but that's about to change for our race.

Our race is going to be from the Norwegian Arctic to Cape Town South Africa and is for mid '30s and modern GA aircraft. Advance details are in the multiplayer forum and we're hoping to have the final rules released in the next day or so. Look for Cape to Cape.
