OFF / Vista compatability?

Hi!

New here. Used to fly Red Baron, RBII, RB3D. I'm thinking OFF looks great. Wondering about something, though.

I read that I need Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 before I install OFF. I think I also read that OFF works with Vista; but the MSCFS3 ads I saw tonight say it's not Vista compatable.

My new computer has Vista. Is that an insurmountable problem with MSCFS3 / OFF?

Thanks!

I have a Vista 64bit and both MSCF3 and OFF work perfectly.

I have Vista 32 and no issues whatsoever. OFF is everything we dreamed RB3D should be. And then some.

OFF (BHaH) is fully compatible with XP, Vista 32 and 64 bit and will install automatically. However, you do still need CFS3 for the the initial installation. It is also fully compatible with TrackIR, if you happen to have it.

I run Vista 64 and OFF runs perfectly both on and off-line.

another 64 vista user that has no problems with BHAH........other than I use Vista, I miss xp for some reason.

You finally got here! You will find a lot of familiar RB names here.

Thanks a lot!

And thanks for the help, guys. I went through and read the installation info and that filled in the grey areas. Now I understand how the CFS3 files will be added to the installation of OFF/BHAH.

I just want to say something. One of the guys I work with (Miles) told me about Red Baron years ago. He and I were the only two people where we work who got into it. We went through all three phases of RB, and really dug it. We'd talk about it all the time at work. People raised eyebrows, but we didn't care.

Then computers changed and our RB3D disks didn't work so well with XP. His won't even load, and I lose the audio from my campaign the first time I shut the computer down. Next time around I'm deaf as a stump.

Nevertheless, I still fly my RB3D occasionally; and Miles (my buddy) and I still talk about it a lot at work.

To shorten a long story: we have been wishing and hoping and praying that SOMEBODY would come up with a realistic WWI air combat sim. I found OFF/BHAH a couple days ago, and I am just totally blown away. The video clips I've seen show improved graphics that are a quantum leap ahead: much like the difference between the original RB versus RB3D. Darn near movie quality now.

I just want to say THANK YOU to those of you who took the time and did the huge amount of work that must have been necessary to make this happen. This looks really great and I can't wait to get everything plugged in and working.

Miles is on vacation. When he comes back I'm going to tell him about this. Hope to have mine working by then.

He's always been an American flying for the French; and I've always been a kampfflieger.

He favors the Nieuports, and I'm partial to the Albatros DIII and (of course) the Fokker DVII.

We've both flown a lot against the AI, but never fought each other directly. This is going to be great!

I do have another question. The original RB had a neat feature: you could "record" your flight and view it from several different angles and modes; stop the action for analysis; etc. That really came in handy when analyzing tactics and such. I really missed that function in RBII and RB3D.

Does OFF/BHAH have that "mission recording" capability?

Thanks in advance for the answer. And thanks again to all of you who have made this possible.

Prost! :ernae:

Hi TVO

Welcome here.

OFFBHAH does have a facility to review your mission but this is textual in format rather than graphic.

Don't let this worry you though ,the sim is simply beyond equal and sets a new benchmark for WW1 aviation simming.

I suppose you and your colleague could both record your missions using Fraps or similar so that you have a visual record of how you both get on.

Multiplay is only possible nowadays IP to IP as a result of MS' decision to dump the cfs 3 servers.

There is burgeoning MP interest if this is of interest to you. Look out for posts by Sitting Duck and Stumpjumper.

Death from Above,

I recognize you from RB3d. I used to fly it as well for years! I found OFF about the time Phase 2 was being launched. After I got Phase 2 working on and off line I never looked at RB3d again. I would post in the wings of valor site all the time about OFF and no one seemed to care. I even got into a discussion about RB3d vs OFF at a game convention where a guy had a LAN game set up with about 6 stations. He absolutely refused to believe there could be anything better than RB!

Glad you made it over. Check Stumper and Duck's post for online games. Maybe we will meet in the skies again!
