anyone else having trouble with the "germany" off3 screensaver?

Hey guys, I saw the screensavers and said "Ill give this a go" Id/l them and they came up as packed files on my desktop but I didnt have WinRAR so I searched for a free d/l of the program not from the makers of WinRAR itself. First mistake. Included in the files for WinRAR were some nasty malware/spyware files called "intervalhehehe". It took me a couple hours to straighten out, mostly deleting files in System32, deleting the corrupt WinRAR files and clearing my System32 Explorer Hosts. Seems that this file attacks popularly viewed websites such as Google Yahoo....ect. and brings up an ad for some antispyware to purchase.

WinRAR is a very reputable program and the screensaver files are perfectly fine. But if your looking for WinRAR be very careful about where you get it from. Im posting this for the folks who arent very technologically inclined (just like myself) and trying to save them the hassle I went through.

Im sure most of you guys already know all about this, and if youve read all the way through this post and realize Ive wated your time Im sorry.

I got a free trial download at the winrar webpage. Paid nothing, it worked, no problems. I'm sorry about your trouble.
 
I checked these savers before releasing them. However, I'll recheck the Germany saver. If it is a corrupted zip, I'll get a replacement uploaded.

I'll also put up on my server a WINZIP version of each (although these will be larger downloads, due to not being as compressed as the WINRAR versions).

I had problems with malware/spyware on my system, I downloaded windows defender (stop laughing), it cleared the problem quickly and efficiently and is easy to keep updated.

Before anyone asks I do also have Steganos internet security, which is great at detecting most problems but for some reason missed this one, hence why I used windows defender.

Hi all,
I've checked all of the original 5 savers and all were OK and unzipped/installed with no problems. My guess is the Germany zip was incomplete after uploading to the web site, as I downloaded it and got the same 'incomplete' error.

I've asked Pol to reload the German zip file as soon as he is able.

In addition, the same savers can be downloaded in WINZIP format from my OFF page later tonight.

Works fine here, downloaded ran the exe installer, and installed 100%.

Maybe you were trying to download in the middle of it uploading??

Make sure you use WinRar from http://www.rarlab.com/ ?
 
Try downloading the WINZIP version from my link in above thread. I tested it and it works, although as WINZIP does not compress as well as WINRAR, so the file is larger.
 
Okay, I downloaded the German.rar and was able to open and install it successfully using 7-zip. :applause: Interestingly, the size of the latest .rar file was shown as 5.5 megs instead of 5.6 megs from the same file I downloaded last night. Maybe some extra bits and bytes got into the old download, corrupting the file.

Try it now and see if it works.
 
The file is fine, as I say I downloaded it after fixing it and unrarred it fine and installed it fine. Please remove any corrupt files and download again please (press ctrl+f5 when viewing the page). Any errors there still are your problem :)
 
Rickitycrate. That was my mistake. I didnt get it from the WinRAR site and thats why it was infected. Many thanks to Sandbagger, I'll get the WinZip files later.

Rugbyfan. Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into that.
