OK, I'm now on the dark side...

I looked for a decent netbook for a couple of months, but in the end I decided that the keyboards were not made for me - my hands are simply too big.

Monday evening we bought a brand new MacBook Pro 2.53 Ghz, and...oh, I love it! The only thing I regretted when I was fiddling with it, that I turned on FileVault - a tool which encrypts everything on your Mac even better - and it took like half an hour, then I ran out of possible solutions and pushed the on/off button.

Apple makes wonderful things. So I'm now officially on the dark side. Man, OSX Snow Leopard works way faster, better, more efficient regarding system resources, easier,..

If you need a new laptop these days, don't hesitate - get a MacBook (Pro). You won't regret it.

Oh no another one swallowed the cool-aid! I am the only MAC repairman that has any idea what he is doing with a Mac-Book for miles around. Hope that is not the case in Belgium. I agree that the Snow Leopard OS is better than Windows in some cases but Win7 has changed that and MAC is ridiculously expensive for what you get. You are using an Intel PC that uses MAC OS. I can do that with any cheaper PC and run Windows 7 without having to run BootCamp as well. I have already posted that hack here at SOH and it works flawlessly.

Congrads on your purchase! Apple makes some great laptops/desktops...now you're gonna get addicted to Apple products...lol

I actually know someone who uses MS Windows exclusively on a MacBook - cuz he likes the way Apple's look :)

ps. i hope this thread doesn't turn into a PC vs MAC thing...they are just tools...there's no need for "this is better"...i never understood why people get so worked up about this topic....i can understand if they are major share holders of Microsoft or Apple...but as an average consumer...who cares??? If people want to pay more for an Apple, then that's their business...sometimes it's not just about the money....

Congrats Joris,

I envy you. I have wanted a MBP 17" UniBody for a year now. They are fantastic laptops. My sister has one and she loves it... I still cant believe how thin they are and how long they last on the battery. 8 hours.. lol. My hp laptop with double size battery hanging out the bottom will run barely an hour or so checking emails.. Crazy..

You can install WinXP on half the HD and put FS in there if you need to. Its called BootCamp. If you do, just make sure you take notes before you do it and be very careful. You need to have a single disc for installing it.

Sorry, Apple is most definitely NOT the dark side...

:kilroy:

You are part of the rebel alliance and a traitor. :monkies:

:icon_lol:. I just knew you were going to say something like that :icon29:.
No, seriously, if you need a very good laptop these days - get one from Apple. It's awesome. And it works way easier than Windows in my opinion...and that touchpad...I love it :applause:.

I own one of each: and Ipod touch, A Windows Vista PC and Eee w/ Linux, and I love them all equally!

Haha same here. A few weeks ago I got a 32 gig touch. iStill hate itunes... I thought it would have changed in the last 5 years, lol.

EEE's just love the 'nix. Xubuntu 9.10 absolutely screams on my 1000H. I love doing circles around everyones' Windows 7 laptops at school. They always get all mad and then dismiss me as some crazy guy for using Linux. :icon_lol:

I may be crazy but I can shut down in 2 seconds flat! :173go1:

Another thing I love about the MacBook; this computer (Vista Basic 32-bits) takes about a minute or so to shut down...the laptop more like 10 seconds, I think.

Joris,

There are some great software Mac App downloads at the Apple website. Some are freeware and some are demo's. Sort of like looking for a App for your iPhone. It can be fun looking through those.

Also, if you ever have questions, go to http://discussions.apple.com and post your questions there. Some really helpful people that hang out there. You can also look up your questions later.

I want to load up OSX Snow Leopard on mine, but fear it might mess up my BootCamp and WinXP. They say it turns on and shuts off at 'ludicrous speed'.

Theres something totally cool about booting up in Mac mode. I dont know how to describe it. Its like a car that is totally different from what I am used to. It fires up fast, doesnt hesitate. And its new.... Totally different...

Anyways.. Congrats on your purchase. :d

May it always run good for you.

Merci Bill, highly appreciated. I'm feeling kinda foolish that I have to ask this, but eh...I wanted to watch the movie 'Das Leben der Anderen' (a German Oscar-winning movie), but it just swallowed the DVD and it doesn't show in the Finder. The DVD player started, showed the messages that you may not copy, loan it to someone, etc...but then, that rolling ball thing appeared and it kept going (meaning that it's loading)...and I've force stopped the DVD player, but doesn't know up on the desktop and it refuses to eject the disc itself.

Edit; disregard all I wrote about the SuperDrive not working properly etc. I just updated the Mac and it runs perfect. The people at Apple work at the speed of light, it seems...

My one-man household is completely 7-ized now. It amazingly also flies on my Thinkpad (even though it's "just" the x86 instead of the x64). Linux? OSX? Qu'est-ce que c'est? :d

P.S: If I want an Apple I visit my local fruit store. :icon_lol:

P.P.S: I have to admit that Jobsikovski and his gang have some cool ideas, but mostly, it's as if they're trying too hard to do everything completely different.

P.P.P.S: I think I'd buy an Ubuntu/Linux-Pod. :icon_lol:

I HATE itunes.

zune marketplace is way ahead of itunes in cool stuff. I had the old 'brick' zune before I got the Touch. I started using zune marketplace again after it updated and added this:
View attachment 17223
When you minimize Marketplace it goes to this thing on the toolbar so you can advance the song/pause/rewind without having to switch windows. To see the song name you just mouse over it and that window pops up with the album art/song/artist.
When iTunes gets that, I'll switch back over.:kilroy:

somewhat o/t but i see you like audioslave.
just a heads up, cornell is re-releasing his lates album.
he re-mixed it as more of a guitar album. (i suspect because of lackluster sales)

Speaking of Apps for iPhone, among the ten thousand or so available...

...is there one that actually enables the iPhone to be a phone? :a1310:

yes... (sigh)

Its a darn good phone as well. I can switch from phone mode to other programs while talking on the phone. Speaker phone works brilliant, (new high performance speakers in the new 3GS models). The touch screen button system also works brilliantly when tapping out a number.

The thing is like a laptop computer.... I have been taking my brother to doctors appointments alot lately and while waiting in the lobby's, I can check emails and posts at forums (here) with that thing.

Pretty nice tool.
