Ok, Now I Really Need Help!

I've been having a problem with having the flight sim lock-up and give me a strange message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator9\fs9.exe
R6025
-pure virtual function call

This started happening about 10-15minutes into a flight with the new Section8 F-86

This morning I was flying the new freeware release C-141 from Alphasim.
Same thing happened. So I tried deleting out the new Alphasim freeware planes I installed. Retried the F-86. Same result, but this time it locked up after only maybe 5 minutes. So then I tried the default 182. Everything locked up after about 5 minutes!

I have never had any problems with the sim locking up before. I have all sliders maxed to the right and the fps set at 40. I average between 39and 22fps over the most dense scenery. I should mention that I'm able to get out by using control/alt/delete.

My computer specs are:
Core 2 Duo 2.33@ 1333
3gigs of Ram
256 meg Nvidea card
500 gig HD with about 460 free
XP OS

I know there's a way to adjust virtual memory on the OS. I looked there and it's set at recomended. The video card is set to specs for FS9.

Seems to me as though it's got to be something from one of the planes I recently downloaded. Those would be the latest batch of freeware from Alphasim and the new F-86. I heard someone mention a possible gauge problem on a different forum. When I deleted the Alphasim planes from my system I just deleted them. No way to do a total uninstall.

Could this be something with my computer? Or is this something in the sim itself?

I know that there's always the option of scraping everything and starting over with a completely new install of FS9, but I want that to be the last resort. Takes WAY TOO LONG to get things back to where I had it.

Any ideas from the more knowlegable guru's here would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks guys, have a great Saturday!
Tom

i havent seen this error before, but since it's reporting a run-time error, you have a conflict somewhere (basically, something is sharing a file which is not happy being shared).

likely source could be a recently installed .DLL file, traffic file, and maybe a gauge (tho very unlikely).

Did you install any new traffic related .bgls lately? Or any of these planes place .DLL files into the windows/system32 folder? or the FS9 root? I'm not talking about Modules btw (which also ends in .DLL)

anyways, you shouldnt need to reinstall...just have to find the conflict somewhere.

ps. Try turning off AI and see what happens. If the crash doesnt occur, then it's a traffic file causing it.

Will give that a try. Fingers crossed!

Turning off AI traffic worked! :applause::applause::applause::applause:

Now, how do I find what traffic dile was causing the problem?
I opened up the System32 files and (gulp) it looks pretty intimidating.
Don't really know what I'm looking at. Lots of things ending in .DLL.
Would it have the name of the plane(s) that I deleted in it?

BTW: I have been running the following for traffic all along:
GA Traffic
FS2004 Northwest Airline AI Traffic
FS2004 USA Traffic Package

I've had the AI traffic set at about 60% This gave me the traffic level that seemed right at major airports. All has been running OK with these running together until I loaded up the F-86 or the last freebies from Alphasim.

Tom-

I'm not sure this has anything to do with your problem, but since turning off AI 'fixed' it maybe worth looking at.

A while back I had a CTD problem after installing a scenery package. Whenever I flew in the vicinity of the 'new' airfield the sim would crash. I thought of AFCAD problems first but it turned out to be a particular AI plane that was included in the pack.

It seems that the sim would crash whenever it tried to load this plane (or possibly multiple copies of it), it was a formerly flyable FS2K or CFS2 plane converted to AI.

Once I found it and replaced it the problems stopped.

You know, I looked for all the AI planes yesterday. What I found was nothing new. Now I've been flying sims for a few years now, but I'm new to poking around in them. I only found AI planes in my Aircraft folder. But yet I know there are other AI planes. Is there some AI folder that I seem to be overlooking/can't find? :banghead:

A pure shot in the dark.... might some AI planes be included in a custom scenery bgl? Just a thought as I have the exact same issue but haven't found the culprit yet.

OK, here's my latest update to the problem. I started to get frustrated about the problem and still not knowing how to find or which AI plane might be causing the problem, I deleted GA Traffic from my C drive. Low and behold, the problem "seems" to be fixed! Now here's the really weird thing. Most of the GA traffic is still there! And I don't mean the default traffic. I mean Bill Lion's Bellanca stuff. Bill's Bugatti stuff. Wossa's P-51 ect. So maybe that means I didn't "really delete" GA Traffic after all? I'm more confused now that ever! :isadizzy:
Have to do more testing to find out.
At least that's what I'm telling my wife. "Sorry Honey, can't help with the dishes. Gotta do more testing!" :icon_lol:
