Im one the look for some old proplier frieghters for fs2004.

what do you suggest?

Hey warbirdsnut,

First place to look for old big props is CalClassic.com. This is passenger and freight propliners' heaven.

Besides what you'll find there (a.o. Boeing 377 Stratoliner, C-46, Convairliners, DC-6, DC-6B, DC-7, DC-7B, DC-7C, Connie, Starliner, Electra, various brilliant panels, propliner tutorials, scenery) you'll find links to relevant sites et cetera.

Jens B. Kristensen has made a beautiful Canadair DC-4M & C-54GM North Star and C-4 Argonaut package (combines wonderfully with Des Braban's Lancaster sound), ditto Douglas DC-4/C-54 (my advise for sound is Des Braban's DC-3 sound in combination with DC-4 sound.cfg by Maarten Brouwer :redf:), and ditto Douglas DC-6 (my advise for sound is David C. Copley's Sim-Outhouse A-26 Invader sound in combination with DC-6 sound.cfg by - again - Maarten Brouwer :redf:).

MAAM-SIM has a fabulous "payware" DC-3/C-47 with a wonderful sound pack (based on digital recordings of Douglas C-47A PH-DDZ's Pratt & Whitney R-1830-92 engines).

Diego S. Barreto made some really good Wright Turbocompound sound packages for the Douglas DC-7 series and the Super Constellation/Starliner, based on sound recordings of the real aircraft.

Avsim.com, Flightsim.com and Simviation.com e.g. have huge stocks of repaints, sounds and so on.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Maarten

Hi Tim,

You're absolutely right. BTW, I like all of Rick's work very much. He's a genius.

Cheers,
Maarten

Alphasim recently released their Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation as freeware, and I've been very impressed with it. You get six models and paint schemes, and there's plenty of repaints avaliable.

The Connie Set is at the bottom of the USAF/USN list. :wiggle:

Now we're talking! Gotta love the old freightdogs! And I like 'em best with some "character". The rattier looking the better :d.

Here's a couple from my hanger:

Pics 1 & 2 are of the CalClassic DC-6B with Chris Coarse (Railrunner 130)'s old freighter paint.

Pics 3 & 4 are the CalClassic DC-7B with a patch work paint and freighter doors added.

Willy I too love seeing those old Freighter birds. I have most of Cal Classics and love useing them in and around the Caribbean and Alaska. The second pic paint reminds me of a smugglers Ac.:costumes:

I have found the dc6 freighter paint. where is the dc7 freighter paint?

That DC-7 paint is one of my hack jobs I did for myself that started out with the Pan American Airways DC-7B paint. I weathered the original out, repainted parts of the nose and fuselage, used Chris's cargo doors from the DC-6 and bits from other paints for the CalClassic DC-6 & -7. I've never uploaded it because of possible copyright issues.

Sadly, Northern Air cargo, just parked the last of their sizeable DC6 Fleet. Cliff Everts still runs several 6's and two C46's here in Alaska.

The CalClassics Convair 240 with the Freight Dog repaint makes a nice tubeliner turned freighter. Go to AvSim and search for "Freight Dog", that should pull up some nice freighter repaints for you.

Freight, huh...

Can't go wrong with the Aero Commander.. and it comes ready with a load of cargo..

Or the "Whale"... with lots of paints already done for it...

or for something a bit different, the Carvair

Rob

Oh ya the aero commander. A perfect Caribbean and S.American Freight runner. Spent many hours in Milton's Commander zippen the canyons and mountains of C.America and S.America. Fun Fun. Although I need to explore the Yellowknife area of Canada. Anyone got ideas were i can find some scenery please?

Ugh! It churns my stomach to see those beautiful airplanes in such terrible looking condition. I think I'll stick to the pristine paint jobs that adorn my lovely collection of propliners.

No VC, but lots of exterior goodies - and I popped in the VNCon panel so that I could figure out what the heck I was doing...

You're in luck Trans! go find these:
ytbases1.zip (adds the Yellowknife float base (but not the proper mesh/landclass/terrain so it's a bit out of place and missing the real beauty)

diamond_pack.zip (adds the Ekati diamond mine - just use the AF2_ycoa.bgl and omit the CYZF.bgl as the best is yet to come)

CYZFSSV1.zip
(Sidney Schwartz' lovely and accurate Yellowknife airport! fixes the default LC/mesh issues and gives you the full modern airport. It includes AI traffic which you may want to omit or modify as the airport is not AI friendly -nor easy in a real-world ATC sense -taxiway limitations)

http://members.tripod.com/~higharc/yellowk.html

Then grab the DC-3, C-46 and DC-4 repaints that are around for Buffalo Airways and have fun.

Rob

I wish I had a picture of Cliff Everets beautiful C-46's. I complimented Cliff on his nice paint job and in grouchy Cliff fashion he replied, "Outta be nice, cost eightyfive thousand!"

T.

Speaking of Everet's C-46s, here's the FS versions of Salmon-Ella and Dumbo.....
