Older carriers

I figured out how to get some carriers in FSX last night and I was very proud of myself because I successfully landed my Bearcat on the Reagan on the first try. But all I have been able to get to come up are the newer carriers. I have a few older WWII and Korean war era carriers and I guess I must be missing something because they won't come up in the sim. The model and texture files are in the Boats directory and they are listed in aicarriers.cfg and the cvn_id.cfg. What could I be missing? I am really interested in the Korean War period of planes and ships (so if anyone knows of any high quality planes from that time...) but I can't get anything older than the Nimitz to come up.

Yeah land that crap and you will be a pilot lol! Try landing a Hawk T1A in 28 kts crosswind a valley! :salute:

If you make changes to the AI carriers config while the sim is running you will have to restart the sim to get the new entries to show up in the AI carriers drop down menu.

The best boats currently available are the M. Davies CV10 and CV32 (Essex). You will need to use AI Ships to make them appear where you want and do what you want. The F9F is fun to land on the straight decks, but I think the CL is snitch high as the approach speed is about 10 knots slow.

Additionally there is the Hornet, which was about the first miving carrier for Accel, and has the plus that you can drive it from the bridge if you want to host multiplayer (and be the ship).

Cheers: T

CV10 and CV32 (Essex) are very good but I prefer HMS Victorious, biased maybe but in 1943 she was 50% of the allied carrier force in the Pacific.

I have the M. Davies Essex (although in the instructions it talks about it being the Yorktown, the Essex or the Leyte, so I'm not really sure what ship it should be), also the fsxflyers CV-3 Saratoga and Bruce Fitzgeralds CV-6 Enterprise, although I am not sure if that one is suppose to work as an AI or if it's just a pilotable ship. The problem is, I can't get any of them to come up in the sim. I install the exactly like the instructions say but nothing happens. I am wondering if it's something with the aicarriers.cfg or cvn_id.cfg file. Should both of those have all the carriers listed, and where exactly should those files be? Does it matter if the ships sub-directory in the Boats directory doesn't start with VEH_?

There are two ships in two packages.

CV-10 USS Yorktown, camo for WWII.
CV-32 USS Leyte, plain grey for Korea.

Both are from the 'Essex' class of carriers. The USN has a penchant for naming whole classes after the name of the lead vessel, in this case CV-9 USS Essex, other examples are, Nimitz, Forrestal, Cleveland, Baltimore etc classes.

Other navies sometimes use a alpha numeric names, ie RN Type 42 or Type 23 etc.

Both carriers have detail variations specific to each vessel and their specific war zone.

Hope that helps.

Best

Michael

Essex as in Essex Class.....

Yortown was used for a number of movies, the "Fighting Lady" and also for "Bridges of Toko Ri".

So far not having Victorious show in AIships. I wish that we could have some of the YANKO ships that were done for FS9, both Japanese and American Midway and Coral Sea scenarios.

...same here on my end of the internet... :crybaby: ... it's got to be something simple that I'm not doing correctly.

I get the other modern AI carriers no problem. I have been over and over the cfg file and don't see any difference in how they modern ships are set up compared to the older ones. I want a straight deck to land on just like they did back in the day!!!

[formation.0]
title=HMS Victorious Early WW2 (Single)
unit.0=Victorious_1940, 0, 0

You've probably done this, but I've got the above in a flyingstations.cfg in the AICarriers/conf.d folder and she shows up at the end of the list. No problems at all.
Obviously you'll need the Vic model from flyingstations.com for that to work.
