OLEACC.dll Help

I had to do a system restore several months ago thanks to something from an adobe update. It wasn't the kind where you insert a cd and erases everything. I tried to run CFS3 the other day and it wouldn't work. So I reinstalled it (express install) and tried to open it up when I got this error:

cfs3.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AccessibleObjectFromEvent could not be located in the dynamic link library OLEACC.dll.

What do I need to do to fix this?

I did try to look up some information about this but to no avail. The I.T. at my college did the same and thought that downloading a new OLEACC.dll file would fix it....nope. After a couple of days, and a good deal of thinking and guesswork, I copied my computers OLEACC.dll and pasted it into the CFS3 folder replacing the games original file. PRESTO! the game seemed to work fine, until I tried to update it.

When I ran the 3.1 patch for the game I got an error that said: Original file not found. However, another file with same name was found but file contents do not match. No files will be copied.

Then the patch program shut down. When I moved the error window over I saw that the patch download had stoped at 74% and at the OLEACC.dll file!

Note: I did try the patch later with the original file and an error would pop up saying than the update was not installed successfully. the update was stopped at 1% and no files had been processed yet.

I finally got the patches installed by switching the names of the original and my copy OLEACC.dll files back and forth during the installation. I think that the patches installed successfully, but I do not know how to check. I finished with the copied file named OLEACC.dll so that the games would work.

CFS3 seemed to work.

I downloaded BoB, MAW, PTO Solomon Islands, PTO Rising Sun, and ETO. (I was so excited when I discovered that people had created addons for the game)

BoB seems to work.

MAW works, I tested it with several missions and aircraft.

PTO SI Works as far as menus are concerned. I have not flown in it yet.

ETO does not work but I think that it is something I did wrong during installation and not related to this. I will ask about that in a later thread.

PTO RS I was going through the installation and finally finished part 7. The multicfs3, zx zapper, and bdp zapper are all supposed to auto run. MultiCFS3 pops up, I follow the instructions, press accept, and BAM! Out of nowhere I get the exact same error that I got at the top of this thread and the program shuts down. The zx and bdp zappers opo up and its like watching a rerun of the same error code too many times in a row.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I understand that might have to delete and reinstall everything. This was my favorite flight sim and I hope to fly again soon.

OLEACC.DLL was a file supplied by MS to let CFS3 run in Win98 systems. It first came to our attention with Win7 when it stopped multiplayer working and the answer was to just delete it after installing and patching the simulator. Windows has its own version in a system directory which is used instead.

I deleted and reinstalled CFS3 to ensure a "clean" copy. When I run the update installer I get:

Patch Error
The CFS3.1 Update was not installed successfully.

I deleted the OLEACC.dll from the CFS3 directory and ran the patch again. It installed up to 74% and stoped processing at the OLEACC.dll file and I got the error:

Patch Error
Original File does not exist.

The install program aborted the patch every time.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, in case that helps.

That does help. OLEACC.DLL doesn't conflict with XP, it only became an issue with Win7 and later. If you're using a no-cd patch the process will fail, but that's all I'm going to say about that. Forum policy. :rocket:

Have you run CFS3 before patching? IIRC we usually installed CFS3, ran it, then patched it.

When you say you deleted CFS3 before reinstalling, did you delete the folder in My Documents and the other folder in AppData? Type %appdata%/Microsoft in the address bar and you'll see it listed in an Explorer window

Hairyspin

I ran a complete uninstall of CFS3 and made sure that all folders and files were deleted in the documents and setting as well as in the apps data as you mentioned. I installed the sim (express) and clicked play now and recieved the following error shortly before the program shut down.

cfs3.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AccessibleObjectFromEvent could not be located in the dynamic link library OLEACC.dll

I tried to run the sim from the shortcut and from the cfs3.exe file with the same result. This is just now and I have not attempted to update any patches since the reinstall.

I am not running a nocd patch.

Thank you for the zip, but it is still doing the same thing. I put the original in a seperate unrelated folder to save just in case and replaced it in the cfs3 directory with your copy.

I have found (although it doesn't fix the patch install problem) that if I follow the same process and replace the original with a copy of my computers file (windows/system32) that the sim will run.

In case it matters:
Original and your file size: 5kb
Computers windows copy: 215kb

A somewhat gnarly problem. FWIW, Win 7 has a 324KB version and Win 10 has two versions, 313 and 399KB. I'm stuck, sorry.

That's okay. Like i said, I can get the simi to run and eventually, by name swapping, get the update installers to run completely through. Is there a way to check afterwards to see if the game was updated successfully?

Whether or not they were successful last time, I did get MAW and BoB to work without any problems that I am aware of.

PRAISE THE LORD, and Pass the Ammunition!! :icon31::tommygun2:

I don't know how, but the dreaded OLEACC.dll problem has fixed itself! :biggrin-new:

I figured that I would table the CFS3 situation for a little while and try to download Rise Of Flight. I was especially inspired by just finishing WW1 in history class. To free up hard drive space, I removed every possible installed file that could possibly be related to CFS3 and the expansions for it. In the process, I found several other files eating up hard drive space that I thought I had removed long past. Stuff like Bluestacks, Virtual Box, and Webroot (I have a different anti-virus now) and cleared up an additional 40+GB!

The ROF download failed, but I am not done trying yet. I decided to reinstall (again) CFS3 and stared at the play now button and thought, "what the heck." To my shocked amazement the game started and ran perfectly without the dreaded, expected dynamic link library error ever popping up! I pushed my luck farther and installed both patches with a reboot in between. Both installed flawlessly. Maybe accidentally dropping my laptop in its padded case earlier today had something to do with it.....(PC still works with no known errors)

I don't know what went wrong or why and I don't know how exactly it got fixed. Overjoyed that it works and I will be flying again soon.

A special thanks to Hairyspin who generously gave his time to try and help me. And another thanks for his uploads of Microsoft's files years ago, without which, my patches would not have been successful.(the online copies didn't work for me)
(As they symbolize at SOH..)
