On this day, 29 July 1967: USS Forrestal fire

Today is the anniversary date of the flight deck fire onboard the USS Forrestal. I worked with someone who was on it at the time. That fire had a direct impact on fire fighting training for the U.S.N. NC

I learned today also that the Naval Aviation Museum has received the stern plate of the Forrestal, and it will become part of an exhibit.

I was on the Forrestal for the 72-73 MED cruise....
There was a large plaque in hanger bay 3 with the names of all of the men that died or went missing that awful day..

I had the privilege of a tour of her in Mayport, guided by a young petty officer from my folks home town.
