Anyone remember why the German "Flying Bomb" veered to the right?

Or did they ever find the problem?

I wonder if it had anything to do with its direction finding equipment on board? They were still experimental weapons i guess. But they should have been developed in peacetime in order to solve those teething issues.

Someone was telling me that it had to do with the flaps or rudder, but didnt know the details.

i knew i'd read about and seen this on tv.looking for something else i found the referance to it. the v-1 was equiped with a new gyroscope system. unfortunatly it wasn't shielded from magnetic fields.
when it was launched off the ramps all pointing west with magnetic north on the right.the gyro would adjust to the right pointed downwards.it would lock trim in that position.the pilots could not pull it back to straight flight.they were so low there was no bailout time. 7 pilots died before it was fixed. hanna reitsch was the first pilot to fly it without dieing.she proposed suicide mission with it.being droped from a bomber and crashing them on london. :173go1:

yep, that's the same I heard or read...somewhere, not in detail, but that it had to do with the gyro.
ciao
