Orbx TBF/TBM Avenger "Coming Soon"

Bomber_12th

SOH-CM-2023
Today, I saw this video on Facebook from Orbx, showing that they have partnered with Paul Bennet Airshows in Australia to recreate his TBM Avenger for MSFS (assuming both '2020 and '2024):
Recently, Orbx also released a very detailed MSFS reproduction of Paul Bennet's Wolf Pitts Pro aerobatic aircraft, as well as Maitland Airport, where Bennet is based. Paul Bennet also owns and flies a Hawker Sea Fury, Spitfire Mk.VIII, F4U-1D Corsair, and also flies the Pay's Aviation P-40E - I would especially be excited if Orbx would also team up with Paul Bennet again on a Sea Fury release, and/or a P-40E.

Looks great. Hopefully it will be more solid and better supported than their Optica and PAC 750.

I agree, Paul, I'll definitely have to see some more screenshots and video of the final product before buying. I purposely added "Coming Soon" in quotes, since that is what Orbx says, however their Wolf Pitts Pro was advertised on Facebook as "Coming Soon" for what seemed like a few months, so I'd imagine the Avenger could very well still be a few months from release.

How did the Pitts turn out? I had zero interest in yet another Pitts, so I hadn’t really paid much attention to it, but I wonder if their airplane development process has changed since the Optica and PAC 750.

I think it looks totally amazing in the (very) short promo clip !!  And i know every bolt and rivet of that Turkey ! (MAAM Eastern/Grumman TBM-3 Avenger) I can't wait to unfold the wings and start-up that Wright R-2600 Twin Cyclone again now in MSFS2024 ! What a pleasure that'll be ! Bring back the ol' days of FS9 !

Thanks very much for the HU, John ! :encouragement:

Edit: check out the details of the main gear and wing-fold mechanism :

I remember your Avenger, Jan. The pilot's shirt sleeve blew around in the breeze, which I thought was just excellent.

Hehe, yes, thanks Paul ! :encouragement:

I have always been a stickler for a little extra flavour to lively up a model. Bill (Rambow) made a video of Maam boss Russ Strine as he started up their TBM. Russ's shirt sleeve flapping about in the prop wash as soon as the engine catches (cockpit sidewindow open) was something i specifically wanted to add to our Turkey model. With todays MSFS technology the animation of the flapping sleeve could be made so much better. Years ago i was in close contact with Bill Lyons and i got him to add a scarf to the pilot flapping about in the prop wash of one of his early biplanes. It's a pity to see almost non of todays devs picks up on that sort of stuff.

(i added an animated hand held microphone to the co-pilot of our C-47. He would bring it in front of his mouth and after a few seconds bring it down again (and so on, and so on..). A retired RAF pilot who's name i disrespectfully can't remember atm who frequented the British FS Forum (can't remember the name either, my oh my how time flies, maybe it's still online....? ) said that he liked our RAF C-47 very much but that he thought that the co-pilot shouldn't drink so much coffee.... ;-))

LOVED working on that turkey and because of Rob Young's magical flightdynamics LOVED flying it as well. I really fell in love with it and i got my friend Rob Cappers ( of DC-2 "Uiver" fame) working on the native FSX model which sadly didn't make it to release. So now we're going to see it in all of its MSFS2024 glory ! Wow!! I just can't wait !!

I worked with Rob Cappers on the DC2 flight dynamics, a very nice aircraft. He was kind enough to fetch me on an AMS layover and take me to the flight sim gathering at Lelystad where I got to meet several FS type characters! I have some recollection of Rob working on a CVL at the time?

I certainly do remember, Tom ! Pity i missed you at the FS Weekend. Been there ever since Mathijs instigated it still at Aviodome/Schiphol and at one point in time you've seen it all.. ;-) Great time it was developing the DC-2 "Uiver" ! Very sad she won't fly anymore for real...Maybe virtual in MSFS2024 ( joehoe Rob, ben je daar nog ??...;-)

I lost contact with Rob more or less. What does CVL mean, Tom ?..

Tschüss,
Jan

Is the Spitfire Mk.VIII that Paul Bennet owns MV154?
I'm very much looking forward to this Avenger and more WWII aircraft (especially the FlyingIron B-17) being released for MSFS 2024!

USN abréviation for Light Carrier. These were built on Cruiser hulls and so could keep up with the fleet carriers. Some famous ones like San Jacinto (Jerry Ford served as an officer on her); Cowpens; Belleau Woods; Independence etc. G HW Bush flew off of one, I forget which.

Ah, yes, of course. You could be right about Rob working on a CVL at that time. IIRC it might have been the Langley (CV-1) of which the model was already build and to be finished by Rob to come with the FSX TBM package. (i might be wrong too....). It looks a bit like Rob didn't make it to MSFS2024. I do remember him working on US early cross country scenery for MSFS2020.

You know Rob's physical appearance, i'm a short guy myself, when we attended FS Weekend shows together we were known as 'Watt & Half Watt' ;-)
