This is directed mostly to Mal998, Fsafranek or anyone else still associated with Alphasim/Virtavia. Will it be possible to get the original Westland Lynx package either through purchase or download. The Future Lynx package got me thinking...

I'll ask Phil about it. It was made by the same developer that did the FS9 only Future Lynx that is now freeware. If something isn't FSX it probably won't be made available for purchase. If I recall correctly it was removed from the catalog when the Future Lynx as released years ago. Apparently it wasn't added to the new freeware page (many haven't been). But until that happens it shouldn't be considered in the public domain. The original author may not have wanted it just given away. Anyway, I'll check with Phil.

Checked with Phil and it will be added to the freeware list at some point. A bit busy with another project right now :icon_lol: so it will be a while. Until then it is still considered commercial product.

Both it and the Future Lynx were made by Terry Cooke (aka "LynxPilot" to those who used to fly with the Alphasim crowd in multi-player).

The AS Lynx is still a pretty nice helicopter, and it was made by a real Lynx pilot.

A few quick screenshots of some model and cockpit variations:

Whilst I like the future Lynx very much and it has a few more click-able bits in the VC (you can start it, etc). The original Lynx is still my fav even with it's lesser VC, it may be a personal thing due to age (grew up with the original) but to me it just has something more, hard to put my finger on it though.

Bought mine long ago and it is one of my all time fav helos, flies like a charm to boot.

I recall the designer saying in the beta forum once that he felt he had released it too soon. I'm sure he wanted to include more feature depth. The original should be available before summer I would think.

Installed a great repaint by Andy Nott (Fs.com) and a sound update by Christoffer Petersen (Avsim.com) to further enhance the Lynx:

Hi,

Myself I'm satisfied with the already freeware LZ Westland AH7-III Lynx .. but will try the defunct Alphasim wen it's free :)

If some interested .. I have almost all choppers of THE LZ (methink no more available ....)

Yeah it's really sad about the landing zone, they made very nice and very well animated choppers and for such a reasonable price :-(

Kind regards

John

Does anybody know of any Falklands era repaints for the naval version of this aircraft?

Hooky:salute:

There is a repaint for an HAS3 on HMS Endurance at lightsim (endlynx.zip), don't know whether it is pre- or post-Falklands though. Very few repaints out there, as far as I can recall, so plenty of scope for repainters now it is freeware.

Not to mention FAST! Very impressive for a helicopter. I too bought the model a while ago, and it still gets lots of "sim-time".

The Westland Lynx, in my opinion, has excellent flight dynamics. From day one of flying this one years ago, this is one of the fastest, most responsive helicopters I ever flew in flightsim. Also, I was always impressed with the included sounds. I never heard the real thing, but to me, the sounds just fit in relation to the way it flew :salute:

I'd like to think that this one would be something that's done for FSX. I'm surprised it hasn't been already. If it were, whoever developed it, would have a hard time matching the quality of the FDE.

Out of all the Alphasim helicopters I have, this one sat front row center on flight dynamics.
