SOH-CM-2025
Although unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year, I'm quite excited about the new warbird restorations that will be on show and debuting at this year's event - sure to create some stiff competition between a few of them!
Collings Foundation A-36 Invader "Baby Carmen" - As mentioned in my other thread, the Collings Foundation will have their just-finished A-36 Invader at Oshkosh. The aircraft is stock throughout, with all original radios, armament, paint, etc. Some photos can be seen in my second post here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?69113-More-Recent-Russian-Warbird-Discoveries
Midwest Aero P-51D "Passion Wagon" - Although I haven't seen any confirmation yet, I'm under the belief that Midwest Aero Restorations will be debuting their latest P-51D restoration, "Passion Wagon". It is said that it has been restored with the same level of attention to detail throughout as that of their last super-stock restoration, "Happy Jack's Go Buggy", which set all kinds of benchmarks in warbird restorations. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any recent photos, with the only ones online being these, which were added last summer (on track for completion this summer - Midwest Aero has a track record for completing a P-51 restoration every two years, since 2002): http://mustangsmustangs.net/p-51/?survivors/serial/44-63577
Conrad Huffstutler's FM-2 Wildcat - This aircraft has been under restoration for a few years now, and is slated to debut at Oshkosh this year. It is likely one of, if not the most original FM-2's in flying condition today, having been rebuilt and filled out with all of the original radio, cockpit, armament, and engine items as the aircraft had in 1945. This, amazingly, extends all the way to the fact that it doesn't have an electric starter, but rather an original Coffman shotgun starter (when was the last time you saw a warbird with something like that!?). The engine also has water injection, just as original from WWII. To cap it all off, the aircraft has been finished in a historical FM-2 scheme, with original-type paint finish. The most recent photos of the aircraft (inside and out) can be found here: http://www.courtesyaircraft.com/Current Inventory/N774FM General Motors FM-2 Wildcat.htm
Rod Lewis' P-40C Tomahawk - This aircraft finished restoration at Avspecs in New Zealand last year, being shipped to the U.S. last summer and taking home the highest award at the Rolls Royce Invitational held at Reno last year (even harder to win than the Oshkosh awards, from what I hear). The aircraft is fully out-fitted, and absolutely stunning in every detail, down to every placard and stencil. It is easily the most authentic/complete early model P-40 in existence. http://www.lewisairlegends.com/aircraft/p-40c-tomahawk Rod Lewis will also be having the P-38F "Glacier Girl" and his Russian-marked B-25J at the show.
PV-2 Harpoon "Attu Warrior" - One of only three currently flown PV-2 Harpoons, and out-fitted with original hardware, armament, etc.
F2G Super Corsair "Race 74" - Owned by Tom Ungurean and restored by Bob Odegaard (and company), this aircraft flew for the first time last summer, too late to make it to last year's event. This is only one of two F2G Super Corsairs flying today, and painted in its original blue and white scheme from the Cleveland Air Races of the late 40's for which it participated. The current schedule has Bob Odegaard flying this aircraft through an aerial demonstration during the Thursday show.
Ron Fagen's P-51D "Twilight Tear" and P-40E - Both aircraft are past Oshkosh Warbird Grand Champion award winners, as being amongst the top 2-3 most authentic of their kind flying.
And there's sure to be a few surprises I'd imagine! Hopefully the Cavanaugh Flight Museum will send up a few interesting warbirds (as they usually do).
