OT: An interesting photo

I'm sure there's more than a few folks here who never thought that they'd see a photo like this!

THE iconic Cold War bombers...together!

On an FSX note, Captain Sim has a native B-52, though a native Tu-95 (or Tu-142) does not yet exist for FSX. There are FS2004-only versions available though, if you don't mind the usual issues like prop behind clouds, no self shadowing, etc.

I am with Ed, also growing up in the 50's and 60's you would never believe this shot could ever be taken. Great picture. Thanks

excellent shots, those TU-95 are really sexy:cool:
It's a real shame that the Russian Aircrafts, in general, are not so developed for FSX !
thanks for sharing.

Look at how those Russian birds shine. I'll bet knowing where they'd be going their crew chiefs made sure they got a once-over to look their best in front of those money-grubbing capitalists!!!

Does make you wonder, though - where was this shot taken?

Where/when was that taken?

Apparently, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana during an exchange visit in May 1992. B-52H Stratofortress bombers of the USAF with 2 Russian Tu-95 Bears and an An-124 Condor transport in support.

I was quite struck by how small the Bears are in comparison to the B52. In my mind I suppose I expected them to be larger.

Fantastic pic, also a KC-10 in the mix too.

Speaking of sights that would have seemed unimaginable in years gone by, in September this year Avro Vulcan XH558 (along with several more historic military and modern civilian aircraft) is set to fly down the Liffey in Dublin,Ireland as part of Flightfest .

There is some perspective error in the photograph and the difference is not that big. B-52 is about 2m (6ft) longer and height is about the same. Wingspan of the B-52 is considerably larger though and the difference is about 6m (18ft). Weights are also remarkably close together. So, they are quite comparable in physical properties.

this is supposed to happen again this summer,i thought at first maybe this was a pic of the current event,i had made a post about it several months back.two TU-95s to the USA and two B-52's to Russia in some sort of sharing thing like reported earlier in this thread.also.i recently read in air international mag, that a TU-134 recce aircraft is flying out of travis afb all of august as part of a joint us/russian treaty from 2001(?) where they fly aircraft here, and we fly there, looking for nuke stuff...

That may be of course two party special arrangement with US of A and Russia, but sounds a lot like Open Skies treaty. Open Skies flights are actually really common in treaty countries.

Nice shot.....I also grew up in the 60 and 70s, You know what they say......The biggest kids in the neighborhood are eventually going to bump heads....
Never thought I would ever see this.....

That B-52 is in serious need of some Botox.
Have you seen for example the 52 in IWM Duxford? It has some serious fatigue wrinkles especially in the skin of the nose section. It seems to be quite common with those planes.

The only museum I've been to was the Imperial War Museum. And the most interesting piece of equipment there was the Jagdpanther.
