Bjoern
worst developer ever
If we can have a thread about Aerofly here, why not Flightgear as well.
As you might know, FG is FOSS (free open source software), that is actively developed by a bunch of individuals dedicating their spare time to make a flight simulator for multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, OSX).
The release of version 2.6.0 is imminent, but release candidates can be tested already.

Nota bene:
Flightgear is *nothing* like MSFS. You absolutely need to approach it with an open mind to get the most out of it. Hence, some Wiki reading (here: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Main_Page) and trial and error could be required.
Since the FG is under continuous development, it has some really cool stuff in the works for future versions, like spotlight illumination in realtime, shaders for sunrises or, plainly, new aircraft. For the more militant among you, there's even a combat module.
This stuff requires a bit of work to get running, but it might pay off. So far though, you can run the official releases, which are more straightforward to install and manage.
Give FG a try, if you want to. You won't have much to lose, except some time at best.
