OK, this is really starting to get on my nerves. As the title says, recently, FSX started shutting down after a period of time. I have done some research on the mater but have not been able to find a solution. I have a brand new video card so I do not think that is causing the problem. I have checked the temps and they seem to be within normal parameters, so if anyone has had the same problem and knows of a fix please let me know. Any and all ideas will be greatfully accepted.

Had Trouble with "New" Nvidia Drivers
As soon as I installed the new Nvidia drivers (334.xxx something) I started having BSOD and FSX shutdown issues. Uninstalled driver(s), cleaned with 3dguru driver cleaner (in safe mode) and re-installed an older version of Nvidia drivers (332.21). Now the only issues I have noticed are with Mozilla Firefox.

I need to re-state what's happening. FSX is actually shutting Windows down at which point it re-starts. I think it might be a driver issue but I really don't know. I will unload the current drivers do a clean-up and then a clean install of an older set of drivers to see if that fixes the problem. I'll check back tomorrow...thanks.

mal998, when Windows restarts your probably getting a blue screen that disappears to fast to read.
First turn off auto reboot so you can read it, hopefully that should point you in the right direction.
I'l assume your using Win7, if Win8 it maybe different.
Right click "My Computer" and choose "Properties" from the drop down menu.
On the left of the window that appears choose "Advanced system settings".
In the next window click the "Settings" button next to "Startup and Recovery"
Next window untick "Automatically restart"
Click OK and go fly FSX.
When it crashes the blue screen should stay on your screen.
Most of it may seem like gobbledygook but it may indicate what .dll is causing the problem or at least give an error code that you can google.

If you added a vid card, and updated drivers, THEN you had FSX issues....I would suspect that automatically. Search for older drivers and see if you can upload those successfully.
I saw the "brand new video card" statement, but, that may not explain it.
If you flew on FSX for a couple weeks with this new video card, it may just be the newest drivers automatically loaded and screwed you up.
If it was the first time since you hooked up the video card and such, then it bombed on you, the see if there are older drivers for it (yeah, I saw your post saying you would look for older drivers and I know you aren't dumb. You have been here a long time dude).
Only reason I post is because I have a laptop that has been reliable for years until last month. It wasn't even a Nvidia driver that got my laptop screwed up, but, apparently a windows driver. I am using win7 home prem 64 bit, and I can't figure out what is going on with the video driver. It crashes on startup, not upon loading a program like fsx, so you are ahead of where I am at. As long as I do a fresh Win7 64 install and don't let it update the video driver, I am okay. I have done this 4 times before learning I am screwed. Good luck Mal!

OK here's the latest, I un-installed the drivers I was using (332.21 and then 331.82) and installed 326.70 which seem to be pretty stable. The game has been on all day with no shut-down, so I have to assume that drivers were causing the problem. If it shows up again I will come back to this thread and do what was recommended.
