I may be offline for a few days, I seemed to have messed up my Operating system, and may have to reload it all..
I placed a new fix everything program on this yesterday, program that has TRASHED my computer..
I should not have loaded this or ran it. Now I am having problems with this machine.. I have done a system restore but I still am not running properly..
I am going to place my flight sim programs on a second hard drive and reload the operating system..To save it all..
it will take me a few days to reload everything thing..
Perhaps a week of reloading before I get this Monster working correctly again..

I should have left well enough alone..
Live and learn..

...and you have my sympathies... as I've certainly let myself get sucked into fixall and trick upgrade programs... Hurry back:wavey:

I am so Mad at myself right now I could just scream.. It it ain't broke don't fix it..
Should have followed that truth, and said NO..

Owen don't sweat it! I have reinstalled my operating system more times than I can count. I'm so used to doing it now that I do it about every six months just to clean things up. It also helps to speed things up a bit. The main thing I have learned is to save everything thats important on a second hard drive. That way when you do corrupt a file or program by changing something you have a back up.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

If I may add, I work as a network admin in an IT company with over 1000 supported machines. We do not , nor do any other IT companies I know of, run any registry fix, speed up your PC, OS anylizer, memory cleaning network optimizing software EVER.

They are all crap and more than likely will compromise your system. If the IT business does not use them then that should be a pretty good clue as to their value

Hope you get things sorted soon

TW thats very interesting, I have used "Registry Mechanic" for several years now and have never had any problems associated with this program (that I know of). I am certainly no IT but I don't see any problem with using this if as I said you keep everything important backed up. Your thoughts?

Hello

Registry cleaners are built around the assumption that having leftover strings or lines in the registry will have adverse affects on the speed of your operating system. They do not. Windows registry is similar to a data base. A lot of application uninstallers will leave orphaned entries in the registry. Those registry keys don't do anything, and due to the database like nature of the registry they do not impact your OS. They are simply not called upon any more. There is a myth that Windows has to sort through them to call upon a valid entry in the registry. This is not true.

In fact, all it takes is one mistake on the cleaners part and your OS can be corrupted resulting in you having to reload the OS

Cheers

What program did this? I will put it on my don't list.
Back up and then back up your back up!

I am pleased to say, No great loss, I have reloaded the OS, and have restored my Monster to running condition.. Only this time I will not fix a running computer again..
Just had to try something new that didn't play nice.. I am Grateful I haven't lost any of my CFS 3 Flight sim stuff..
Now I just have to set it back up, Managed to keep everything on my second Hard drive, a WD Passport-USB I have..Very displeased with myself over this..
and I will Not fix a this thing again unless it is really broken..

I have reloaded CFS3 and set up the C drive with the normal programs I had before..
I got this fix all from the AVG site, recommended by many..Yea right.. It only managed trashed my OS and left me with a Dumb look on my face..
Up all night, and it took me 18+ hours to fix my mistake..A bit angry at myself still..
Still have to move around some stuff, and check all the various CFS3 expansions..
But I have learned a lesson from it all.. To leave well enough alone..

Owen if you have everything backed up on a second drive you have nothing to lose by experimenting. The first time I had to reinstall my operating system I called one of our IT's from work to help me because I was afraid to do it without adult supervision. Once I had peace of mind however because everything was backed up there was very little I wouldn't try, this is a great way to learn, ha ha!

Yes, My Friend, I usually reload once a year.. I wasn't planning for this one..
I am grateful that I was able to store my programs on my USB HD Passport hard drive..
My C drive in 160 gig, and my USB is 320 gig.. it helps having this second HD..
I have learned a lesson, to not trust this Fix all stuff, and that I need to trust my Gut feeling, a part of me said DON'T DO THIS, even as I clicked the Mouse I knew I was messing up..
But had to try it.. :banghead:
Famous Last words, Hey You all watch This..:isadizzy:

I wasn't sure when this first happened if I could save all of this..
I haven't lost anything to speak of, even learned how to import/export and save my bookmarks..

Hello

Thank you for reminding me that I have been a lazy sod and that I have not been diligent in backing up some stuff. Doing so now:salute:

I too have fallen prey to the should I or shouldn't I index finger wavering over the left click mouse button seemingly for hours......LOL

Glad to hear you are getting it sorted

Just last night I did some things to my pc and it would not go to windows xp or 7. I tryed running in safe mode no joy.

The thing is,
I learned awhile back when I was building this PC that when this happen just take out the battery inside the case and after about 5/10 min's put the battery back in.

This will reset your Bios and OS defaults. Then at start up go to Bios and reset your clock and date and what ever alse you want.

I did this and there where some settings that need that anyway. Now my system is working much faster and smother.

If I where to take this into be fix that is all thy would have done. :icon_lol:

This is a well keep secret I think by repair men. :ernae::icon_lol:
