We had a wall of electrical storms come through here yesterday (we've got one outside right now, as well) and I unplugged my machine to protect against power surges (yes, it's plugged in to a surge strip but I take the extra precaution anyway). Started it back up again yesterday and never got completely started up - got as far as the desktop and icons, but never beyond that. Started it up again in safe mode, ran a MalwareBytes scan on all drives (13.5 hours) plus an Avast! scan on the operating drive. Everythings' clean. On a hunch, unplugged the external 3TB hard drive and started the machine - everything ran perfectly and we're back in operation.
I've checked the % of space remaining on the two drives on this machine, used space is only at the most 15% of total space available.
I'm wondering if I can get to the bottom of this by plugging the external drive back in at a later time, to check how much of its volume is used.
Any ideas on what's keeping the machine from getting over that last little "hump" to starting normally?:ques:
