OT Spitfire medley on Youtube

Man... don't you know that was an awesome experience to see and hear an entire squadron of Spits doing flyby's that day???

Cool.

(They need to loose the music on the vid, though. :icon_lol: )

I didn't know she was "somebody"... not terribly up on British tradition/history. Sorry 'bout that. :redf:

Just that I would have liked to have heard the sounds of the Spitfire's better. :applause:

At that time this was most apt.."They also serve who only stand and wait... and sing."

I don't know if it was the case, I believe it was, that when that song was being sung by Vera, there was a fair chance that there might not ever again be "Bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover"

IMHO, I can't think of a more poignant soundtrack for the film.

I'll tell you , as a 60 year old WWII buff, I can never listen to Vera singing 'White Cliffs of Dover' without my eyes misting up. When you think of the situation at the time (she recorded it in 1942)... it was not at all clear whether the allies would prevail. Songs like hers probably put a little more calcium in the backbone of the people of Great Britain and those Spitfire pilots. Even though it was before my time and I mean it to take nothing from my country or any nations involved, I still tip my hat to the absolute gut-level fortitude of Britain.

International forums are a wonderful thing. I've just learned some Bristish history! I shall now more fully appreciate what I'm hearing thanks to you guys!

Jolly good Chaps! :ernae:

The Spitfire holds a very special place in the hearts of all us Brits, as indeed does Dame Vera.

Harks back to a time when Britain was indeed Great!...... sadly, doesn't quite 'cut it' these days

[sigh]

(actually, very amusing, when you pit the likes of Winston Churchill, up against the worm that is Gordon Brown....the Nazis would have walked straight in!)
