OT Video cards...

Putting together a new PC build and the last piece is the GPU. Is anyone using an ASUS RTX 2060 Super? The 2070/2080s are outside my budget. I’ve considered ATI/AMD Radeon 5700 XTs but the reviews always lead me back to these Nvidia cards.

Thought and comments?

Thanks,

Steve

I'm using a 2080 Super. But my In laws bought a new PC with a 2060 Super. It is supposedly VR ready. It might not be 4K VR ready. But I think it's ready for anything sub that VR 4K.

Thanks Rick. I guess you're the only one on this train that I'm about to board! I've done some adjusting and going to move up to the 2070 super. I'm not a VR guy but I do like quality that I can afford. This in all likelihood will be my last build and I would like for it to last as long as possible for my purposes, which are generally MSFS iterations (X and forward),painting, and an FPS or 2.

Thanks again,

Steve

The 3000 series cards are supposed to be out soon, when that happens, I think you will see big price drops on all of the 2000 series cards.

Thanks stansdds. I read where their release was scheduled for September but all other parts will be here next week so could wait mainly because all the return/warranty windows will have expired by then. But there is room to upgrade down the road.

I've just built a new rig with an RTX 2080 Super. Very happy about it. if the prices do indeed drop for the cards after the launch of the RTX 3xxx series, I would consider that card if I were you.

Just a thought

Thanks Priller. Definitely a thought worth noting.

Rumor is that the 3000 cards will be just as expensive as the 2000 cards, but their performance will be much better.

...and if demand for DIY PC parts stays the way it is the prices will be 25-50% higher than MSRP and that’s if you can find the part. My new PC cost is close to $500.00 more than the same would have cost this time last year. It took almost 5 weeks to get the MoBo I wanted both in stock and at a price that wasn’t 50% higher than suggested retail.

Good, bad or indifferent all the parts for my new build are now in transit (except for a monitor) and all are scheduled to arrive by next weekend 7/25. Then, on with the build!
