I went to the Yorkshire Air Museum to see it's new aquisiton - Nimrod XV250! Elvington will be the only Museum in the world to display a LIVE example of the remarkable Nimrod MR2 military reconnaissance aircraft. Nimrod MR2, XV250 was flown from RAF Kinloss into Elvington on April 13th where it will be maintained in full ground operational capacity as a ‘live’ aircraft.
From now XV250 will be part of the Museum’s world class collection, alongside the huge Victor V-Bomber and Buccaneer Strike aircraft and will stand as a permanent tribute to the 14 British servicemen killed in Afghanistan when Nimrod XV 230 crashed at Kandahar on 2nd September 2006.
It's parked nose to nose with the Victor and a fine pair they make. I was on my own so I was able to meander around the exhibits without distractions of family :jump:.

I wouldn't call the Nimrod a classic beauty, but it is a good looking plane in its own unique way.

I agree about the Nimrod, especially whem it faces the Victor, which in my opinion is the most beautiful Cold War aircraft with those elegant sweeping lines.
 
A grand day out Jeff! Thanks for posting the pics, really must try and get up there one day.

The Victor is one of my favourite 'modern' a/c, always thought it was very futuristic looking as a lad!
 
I agree Pat. The Valiant was always the 'Stirling' of the triumvirate, it was always the wings with the Vulcan (size is everything lol!), the fuselage wasn't that special. The Victor just looks like it came from the far future ( 2001 :icon_lol:) and has the most beatiful lines.
