Howdy,
Any one have an idea of what the cost of a tundra tire for a light GA aircraft runs? Also what is the usual lifespan of light GA aircraft tundra tires? Thanks in advance. Take care.

Tundra tires have a wide price range depending on manufacturer, size, application, rubber softness/hardness, etc.

You can get tires from roughly $160ea to $600ea (and up). Besides tires you need rims and then brakes.

I think the 25/26 inch tires are about the most popular right now, but some go for the 29's, 30's, and 35's. You give up a lot of airspeed, takeoff run, and efficiency the bigger you go.\

As far as tire life....depends on the softness or hardness of the rubber/sidewalls etc and what kind of hell the pilot puts'em through.

Hope that helps.

Here is one link to a popular brand plus other info.

Flying Wild Alaska - 10K & 10 Years!!

Thanks, while watching the TV show, Flying Wild Alaska, the voice over person dropped a price of ten thousand dollars and a life span of ten years on a Cessna 180 - very low tire pressure (5 lb psi)! Just found that hard to believe. Again, thank you. Take care.

I now from a friend of mine who has his PPL up in Alaska, paid about $800 for his 33s...Was teasing him just the other day as I just bought a set of 35s for my truck and paid $800 for all 4!LOL!

The tires in the link above are what a friend of mine has on his SuperCub ....about $1800 for the set as I recal.
The $10000 seems a bit high to me and $800 sounds more like a standard GoodyearAero tire.

The tires can theoretically last a very long time if you never have to land on paved surfaces. Another friend of mine flies a M7 out of his private grass strip in Michigan. And 99% of his flying is to other grass strips or the occasional snow covered spot. I think he said about four or five years per set.

Thanks to all - great info!!

Ozone - the big threat. Yes, how a tire (tyre) is used what determine the lifespan. All good info. The price seems to more in the $800 to $1000 dollar range and that too makes good sense. Thanks ever one for the great info. Take care.
