Just a thought, in the midst of our enjoyment, for the poor souls in Aussie stricken by the cruelty of nature - aided by the ba"""rds who set some fires-

Lives and lives' work destroyed so terribly.

My thoughts to the Aussies and their country.

Same stuff happened here with 100+ dead in the summer of 2007. So I know what its like to see all these forests burn and all these people die for nothing..my sympathies and prayers for this terrible thing to stop ASAP.

Without Getting all political, it''s summer, it's Hot and Dry, there are 60mph winds fanning the flames, and just what is anybody gonna do. If they spot some, crazy S.O.B. starting a fire, use harsh words. He can't blow the clown's head off from 200 yards ! Not anymore . . and the clown knows it.

The citizens of Austraila surrendered 640,000 Firearms by Law
Assaults are up 8.6%
Armed Robbery is up 44%
In the state of Victoria Homicides with firearms is up 300%

NOTE: The Law abiding citizens turned in their guns, the criminals didn't.

Oh how I agree with you Fortiesboy, there really are some unspeakably evil people around or at the very least unbelievably stupid. My eldest son lives in Melbourne with his young family .
Fortunately he lives in a part of the city not at present involved in the fires. I was a fireman for 10 yearsin London and have seen what fire can do. ANYONE who causes fire should expect no leniancy.

My thoughts are with the ones, who lost everyone, all, and everything.

Can't we have a topic about empathizing with our Australian friends without getting on a soapbox to promote a political agenda. Foe God sakes, have a little sensitivity!

While I agree that's a terrible, terrible fate that has befallen our freinds in OZ. I can't help thinking that we possibly have added to the terror by our own complacencey.!

Interesting question, speaking of political agendas, this past summer there were many man made forest fires, fanned by the Santa Ana winds, they ravenged parts of California. Was anybody caught over that, or did we just say Nevermind. :running:

This forum has increased my world awareness and empathy. When I heard the news I first thought of someone like me enjoying OFF one minute and then facing the fires of hell and the sorrowful loss that fire brings. So I pray it will end soon. And that the survivors may find strength and needed assistance. God be with our OZ OFFer's.

To my good brethren in Oz...we wish you all the best, and hope that you recover from this disaster with pride and vigilance. May God see you through these troubled times.

Believe me... the Yanks have seen our share of this kind of crap 200 fold.

All the best,

OvS

Given the extreme conditions existing in Victoria at present gimpyguy your post(s) are in very bad taste.

i know i probably should'nt respond to gimpy but here i go anyway. your post above says to me that you think because australia (or anywhere else ) have gun ownership laws in place, thats the reason why crime has increased?

its sure good to know that due to the USA havin no such gun laws its such a safe crime free place!!:kilroy: geez

Yepp, I was. Exactly like I was about the bushfires in Greece. If you have the possibilty to watch german news TV via satelite, like N24 or N-TV, which belongs to the "Turner Media Group". CNN Europe, NBC-News Europe bringing in a lot of facts, for the interested. You will see that Europeans are much concerned about it. We do mind.

Gimpy,

you really dont know a damn thing, Having a gun would not help, its against the law to shoot someone here. I'm one of the guys who gave their prohibited guns back in 1996. I still have guns that are more than capable of doing what you are suggesting. BUT I WONT and neither will any other law abiding citizen. We have laws for a reason, we dont need vigalanties with guns.

further more most of the fires were started by lightning or ember attacks from other fires not arsenists. of the 70 odd fires (56 of which are still burning) only around 8 of them are thought to be deliberately lit..

In lite of what this thread is about , and having spent time fighting the fires (and headed back for more), and then shooting injured livestock by the hundreds, I find your lack of respect for the 200 odd people dead so far! (God bless them) and 1000s of people left homeless somewhat annouying.

regards Rob.

PS your stats on crime etc are pure crap!

Cappy,

I am so sorry to see Oz in flames like this. I have had the priveledge of standing on the soil of your land and really enjoyed it tremendously. The people were very nice, and the overall look of the cities including Adelaide, Melborne, Sydney, Brizzy, and Cairnes were fantastic.

Having traveled across the USA before visiting OZ, I know for a fact you live in a very nice place, and hopefully, this can be controlled, and those responsible can be treated accordingly.

I for one believe 'gun control' is good, especially when there are 8 of them pointed at the head of a worthless POS that causes destruction like this.

OvS

God bless the land of Oz.

I am sorry to hear about the tragedy in Oz, That it might be a deliberate act doesn't make it any more tragic but does make it far more senseless. My prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones.

As for gimpguy's post, I found it a little too political for this thread and lacking in class. Even though he and I are of a like mind on the subject of gun control.

Seeing as the U. S. Media has deemed the numbers Not Important, I freely invite an Aussie ( via PM ) to provide the true numbers.

This stumbling around in the dark, benifits niether :wavey:

Having family (my Brother) living in Victoria..yes, a big place!....I was concerned for his safety, though thankfully all is well.
My thoughts go out to our Aussie friends in these horrible times!

All the best guys!

Probably because your nation are so far up their own asses, they don't even know how to spell Australia, let alone know where the hell it is!
