Out of Available Memory.

Can someone help this not too computer savay old timer? Some basic info: I'm running OS W7/64 with both FS9 and FSX installed in program (x86). I have 70% of hard drive available and 8 gig's of memory.

When I attempt to launch FS9 it throws me an error message, "your computer has run out of available memory," then exit's. I can open and use FSX ok.

Spent all day yesterday reseaching the problem. Learned some stuff about how memory work's but not enough to fix the problem. Think it has something to do about changing the window's paging file. I have updated my ATI video driver and cleaned the hard drive. Perhaps the windows paging file is corrupted, if so, how would I rebuild that file?

With all the expertise out there I know someone has some idea's/answer's to my situation. I would be eternally grateful for any idea's and/or solution's.....

I just d-loaded and installed the app in XP. Now I'll see if it helps...hope i'm not gonna explode anything....

Out Of Memory.

Trans, Middle and other Memory guru's,

Put in place both of your suggestion's but no joy.

Here's my lastest memory set-up as of this AM:

total memory: 7.93 GB
available memory: 6.21 GB
used memory: 1.71 GB
system cache: 200 MB
peak cache: 244MB
available page file: 12.24 GB.

Any other suggestion's/idea's?

This is a wild guess... you're trying to load up a startup flight that is not the 'default'
Cessna 172?

if so... the problem is usually a gauge file with a sound call associated with the gauge
try clearing out all your temp files then try starting with the default flight first (C172 at Seattle) then change one thing at a time.

Hope this helps

Pete

(now if only I could resolve my graphics issues...)

Hi,

AFAIK and IMHO :)
From all I read about your problem on internet ...
you maybe suffer of a memory leak ...
Memory leak happen when it's a problem of texture or a problem with AI etc ..
Not loading and retrying and so using memory and memory in a endless loop .. until you have the error message !
Try to remind what new you install before you run in problem

Also this suggestion is not a bad one !

Even though it could be your OS paging file, it most likely has to do with an event within FS9. Out of Memory doesn't necessarily mean out of memory, but more likely an internal message repeat of a "Not Found" issue.

Some ideas to toss around....

corrupt .bgl files in your addon scenery folder.

Landclass files are NOTORIOUS for creating this issue.
Check Landclass type folders. There should only be a "scenery" subfolder. No empty texture folder. This will cause a leak if a texture folder is present.

I'd start by:
1. Uninstalling any add-on recently installed, ESPECIALLY scenery.
2. Try and pinpoint it to a specific event. A certain plane? Location? Time of day?

Ultimate Terrain was known to cause this issue if run without the patches. (UT is landclass)

Out Of Memory.

Thank you, Motormouse, Claudius24 and Dogknot !! I will run down and explore all of your idea's one by one.

May also consider a FS9 delete then do a clean FS9 install using Dave "Opa's" guide.

Thank's, again.

Hi,

May also consider a FS9 delete then do a clean FS9 install using Dave "Opa's" guide.

Unless you have only some addon's I suggest you to spend sometime to nail the problem before proceed to a uninstall
It's no problems .. it's only solutions :jump:

....so I installed that app and followed instructions and it did not work...coul;d be cuz I only have 2gigs of RAM....so I set it back to where it was and started trying other things. One was resetting the default flight back to the Cessna at Seattle....when I went to start the flight this is what I got.....anyone recognize this building and can ya tell me why it's in Seattle?View attachment 30746

Hi,

flight back to the Cessna at Seattle....when I went to start the flight this is what I got
The important is not to recognize the building and position...
The important is that you are at the wrong place for default flight Seattle :)
Must be something weird or corrupted in your FS9 :crybaby:

Nope, I'm in Seattle.....I have another pic with the co-ords........it's the weirdest thing I've seen yet in this sim and I've been messing with it for as long as it's been around....I think I'm going to start with a clean scenery.cfg and back up all the files in my addon/scenery folder and replace everything one by one. I've been View attachment 30752shutting down a lot of scenery, I was pushing 1000 and I will see if I maybe shut down the one that placed that building, which looks to me like somethingView attachment 30751 from some Indian or Pakistani scenery, in Seattle. Also, in one of the shots a moi statue has been placed. I personally think someone is playing a trick.View attachment 30750

ah; right seen this before....youre correct its a scenery error but not in the scenery .cfg;
FS9 (and X and 2000 before that) use GUID numbers to allocate library objects to a scenery
via a xml file that becomes the .bgl when processed....so somehwere in your add-on scenery packages is an object library that has
an object GUID number which is the same as a stock object that should be displayed in that location.

Because that particular object is being displayed and not the 'stock' object it follows whichever objects library is at fault is at a higher priority than stock scenery...so

go into your scenery library and de-activate (un-check) all the add-on sceneries; then reactivate them 'by halves' restarting the sim each time to see where error is.

hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion.....I kind of suspected there was something else going on....at least the round building went away when I de-activated the Indira Gandhi scenery. I am now also in the process of going thru all my scenery folders and checking them against not only other scenery folders but against the addon scenery/scenery and the word/scenery folders to make sure I on't have duplicates of traffic files and/ af2 files.

Memory leak is no longer a problem.

Hi Mate's

First of all, thanks to all who gave me pointer's !! Finally, just did a clean uninstal followed by a clean reinstal using David "Opa" Marshall's excellent guide. Fired up the default 172 at KSEA and all was good. Did loose some good stuff like sound's and gauge's but most is backed up on CD. Other sound's are easy to find by Gary Jone's teriffic work and IFR panels el permo by Peter Mercy.

Amazed by so much talant out there.

Keep your Mach up out there.

Hi,

just did a clean uninstal followed by a clean reinstal

Nice !
Now the trick is to take care to not reinstall the file who trigger the memory leak :)
Make a test of your sim after any new stuff installed .. and don't make batch installs :)

I think i'm going to have to do a reinstall myself....I've been wanting to do an install based around the late 50's, early 60's and I have all the stuff to do it....there's a whole lot of stuff I have installed now that I looked at once and nevr again...it's just wasting space. Anyway, a new install will probably take less time then searching for gremlins.
I wrote in another thread how I seem to be having a problem with the gps/ and the map. Every time I call either one up, when I close them out, the sim begins to crawl.....I would suppose that indeed I have a memory leak somewhere possibly something else.......that is unless this is a common problem that someone knows the cure for.
