P-47 Friendly Airfields...

IanP

Didn't quite escape.
I'll do this as one thread with three airfields on three posts to avoid annoying the mods, so bear with me as it may take a while to sort it all out...

First of all, I'll start with the joker in the pack.

This one was, at one time, going to be called "Khowphat Valley" (take out the 'h's), but Mrs. P. overruled that as a placename. She's since changed her mind, but oh well, "Khowpur Valley" it is!

Anyway. Welcome to a place built specifically for the A2A P-47D Thunderbolt Mk1 belonging to 30 Squadron, RAF. I couldn't do Cox's Bazar, where 30Sq actually lived, because it is now a holiday airliner destination, so this one is entirely fictional, but kind of fun. Hope you enjoy it and, if you do, blame Cody and Lewis - they commissioned it, so to speak.

An F.O.B. like this one really needs aircraft to bring it to life, so unless one of the repainters fancies giving me a few more letters on the side of the Thunderbolt I, I may well put together a quick AI file just using HD173 several times. Comments anyone?

...I'll add another post with another airfield on shortly. Once I've uploaded one and sorted out Nick's screenshots for it.

RAF Halesworth v1.2

...and so on to RAF Halesworth and, this time, you get to blame Lewis specifically for the update, then thank Nick Churchill for the pics, which are a lot better than mine.

if you want to read the history of RAF Halesworth, it actually has its own page at my site (http://www.ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk), but this new version has corrected landclass around the Southern side of the airfield to put Halesworth village back where it should be and has an additional technical area around the Eastern hangar, again where it should be.

This one needs scenery libraries from Ted Andrews, so make sure you read the readme.

You might also want to download Martin's (ICDP) repaint discussed on this thread: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=9942 as it was based at Halesworth before moving to Boxted. There's a Boxted livery in the new P-47D base pack.

Great work Ian and thank you very much for taking the time to do these. I am going to learn to hate that tree very very soon :)

...and finally RAF Wormingford

...which is still a corking name!

This is an entirely new one, which I put together quickly after the manuals were released for the new P-47D and I found out that there was a livery included (G8-Z - "My Gal Sal").

There aren't many buildings on the airfield for this one because all the accommodation and ops areas were scattered around the nearby villages.

Thanks again to Nick for the images and, as I've used his Nissen Huts at both S159 and S365, Bill Womack for the use of his WW2 RAF buildings library.

Wow....Simply outstanding...You put tons of effort into these....:woot: :applause:

D'OH!!!:faint:

Not enough effort, apparently. I goofed, but didn't notice until I just tried to make an AI file for Nick to play with at VGFB.

There was no "runway" centreline taxiway, so AI aircraft don't have any idea that there's even a runway there and they just sit, happily baking in the Indian sun. The holds were also too far from the runway, apparently, so the traffic ignored them. It's all sorted now.

I've updated the link in the first post on this thread. Sorry about that.

In case anyone wants it, I've also uploaded the small six-aircraft test AI file for VGFB. That's available at http://www.ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk/historical/raf/fob/traffic_VGFB.bglhttp://www.ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk/historical/raf/fob/Traffic_VGFB.bgl
